Either way - the more "normal" things which get arbitrarily banned the more sand will slip through the GB's fingers until they are left cluthching dottards, psychopaths and fools.

I also doubt they will ban it. Like Undercover said, they will disparage it and "Mark" those in the congregation that have a fb account.

Ya that's basically what I meant...guess I could've worded it better but you know what I mean lol. It's one of many unwritten rules that if broken gets you in trouble.

As far as I know when they mentioned Myspace it included things "like it" obviously facebook included. The only time it matters is when it is an elder, servant, or pioneer. They could be removed from their "positions" if they or their children have a page on any social networking site. At least that is how we viewed it in my body of elders. I agree the "banning" comes from the peer pressure - that is what the "organization" is. A big ball of peer pressure that rolls forward even the Governing Body are under its thumb. Individuals are afraid to bring up changes they think are right to avoid the "Ray Franz" treatment.

Myspace has been "banned" in that it has been called out from the platform at assemblies and C.O. visits. To my knowledge, there is nothing in print, and it is not the sort of thing that would warrant judicial action.

I'm pretty certain Myspace was named in print in the Kingdom Ministry in a Question Box. It was around the time that Facebook was just taking off and more people were probably still using MySpace although I would bet that has switched around now.

    Undercover nailed it.

It's actually the new method they are using for just about everything now.

We won't see anymore outright bans of anything. Even the blood issue is turning in to a personal decision - "we can't tell you what to do" kind of thing.

It's the same style they are using when writing WT articles. They push in a certain direction...make enough derogatory remarks about something, but they stop short of telling you outright what not to do (in most cases). They leave that up to the commenters - who will certainly read between the lines and offer the hard-line commentary that the WT wants to hear, but is now afraid to write.

I predict that there will be an article that basically describes facebook but that doesn't mention it by name. It will then offer a bunch of negative hype which will prompt somebody in the audience during a WT study to name FACEBOOK and state that true christians avoid such a site and voila! You have your "unwritten" ban on Facebook.

    It's sheer genius.

They have already spoken in a public magazine last year about the evils of creating a "personal profile on the internet", equating it with the evils of using drugs, smoking, or [gasp] thinking about going to college!

Great! The more they crack down and the more strict they become the more they will drive away young people. Love it, let them annouce this.
