I would also like to add that by the 90's, you've got this generational base to give a feeling of stability for the born-ins. Sure, there's nothing remarkable coming out of Brooklyn. But there's also nothing which rocks the boat. The young party and have a good time (up to a point) like anyone else, but they can still show up to meetings. Even if they have no real zeal, it's not a problem to remain a JW. Most of the battles have already been fought for them.

I've always thought it was because they can fool only so many people at once. Some stay because they like being fooled. Some leave because they realize they were fooled but they are replaced by new people who are fooled.
From what little I can see nowadays it does seem like there are fewer and fewer people buying their bag of tricks, especially in the First World. Third World seems to be where they can do business as usual but not for long.
That's the problem with an Armageddon sect -- sooner or later The Big A better hit or you're going to lose your audience.

The easy answer to that Mary is she likes to avoid the truth when possible and when its convenient, particularly when it confronts her own integrity.

Remember when I pm'd her your book Mary and she started a thread to defend the points brought out in your book. The only problem was the issues she addressed were nothing you spoke of in your book. LOL Talk about putting your foot in your mouth.
