Forgive an ignorant question, but is the prognosis for the boy terminal irregardless of chemo? In other words, with the chemo treatment, the doctors' prognosis is positive for survival?

They said on the news that his prognosis for recovery if given chemo and radiation is at about 90%. Without it is like 5%.

My stepson's friend had the same form of cancer a few years ago. While I'm no expert, I did quite a bit of research online about it. This disease, especially in young people, has a very high cure rate. As a matter of fact, this friend's oncologist said that if you have to get cancer during childhood or teenage years, this is the kind to get. However, this cancer tends to spread quickly, so treatment should commence as soon as possible. By the time our friend was diagnosed, the cancer had spread to several parts of his body, but with one treatment course he was cured. Yes, he suffered through chemo and radiation, but he's been cancer free ever since. His doctors tell him he has a very good chance of it never rearing its ugly head again.
I really hope they find this poor kid, and he has a chance at living. From what I've read, he was supposed to have a chest x-ray and other tests to determine whether the cancer had already spread too much for the treatment to work.
