This thread was inspired by my listening to the band Mastodon lately. I just find their drummer Brann Dailor amazing. Other drummers who have impressed me in the past have been Jimmy Chamberlin of Smashing Pumpkins and Dave Grohl of Nirvana. Joe Morello is my favorite jazz drummer. How about you? I'll let some of you older guys handle some of the more classic drummers.

I would say Bonham & Moon were the best.

I like all the classic drummers, Moon, Bonham, Watts, Starr, Tommy Lee, Lars Ulrich to name the most popular but there has always been one drummer that I have been a big fan of, not because of his drumming, but of his entire body of work.
This guy's name doesn't usually come up when talking about great drummers but he's greater than just being a drummer in so many ways. He helped lead one of the best bands of the 60s and 70s, played and toured with Dylan, starred in movies and won a grammy for best folk album.
