"In the Bible, did Jesus say the name "Jehovah" in prayer?"

He never did. There's only those few passages that refer to a "name." No prayer of Jesus in the Bible (even the NWT) has him uttering "Jehovah."

    Follow up with:

"If Jesus didn't say the name "Jehovah" in prayer, do we need to?"

    More questions on this theme:

"Are there any Greek New Testament manuscripts with the name "Jehovah"?

There are none. And over 5,000 of them without the name "Jehovah." Zero Greek New Testament manuscripts with "Jehovah."

    Follow up with:

"Just to be clear: Do any Greek New Testament manuscripts use "Jehovah"?

This point needs to be driven home. There are NONE!!

If the Witness comes back with Hebrew versions of the New Testament that use the name Jehovah:

"Are these Hebrew versions translations from the Greek?"

They are translations from the Greek New Testament.

    "When were they published?"

They were published over 1,000 years after the Greek New Testament was written.

"Did any New Testament text have "Jehovah" for the first 1,000 years?"

    The answer is no.

If the JW cites fragments of the Greek Septuagint (Old Testament) with the name "Jehovah" or "Yahweh" (in Hebrew) in the Greek text:

"Is this the Old Testament text or the New Testament?"

It's a few fragments of the Greek translation of the Old Testament.

"Do any of the 5,000 Greek New Testament manuscripts have "Jehovah"?"

You're repeating yourself here, but the JW will have no answer but no.

If the JW still insists that the name was in the original Greek New Testament and was removed:

"What evidence do you have the name was originally there?"

There is no early NT manuscript they can cite. The Witnesses want the name to be in the original NT, but they have absolutely no proof it was there.

    End up with:

"Is the name "Jehovah" important for Christians?"

Obviously not if Jesus is not recorded as using the name "Jehovah" in his prayers and not one version of the New Testament from the first millennium ever used it.

At this point, the JW may try to hand you a printed brochure on the subject. If you decide to take it the same JW will probably note your address and call back on you later. (If you don't want to continue the conversation don't accept the brochure.)

If you accept the brochure, you can say:

"I'll look in here to see if they answer my questions."

Witness publications can cite absolutely NO Greek New Testament manuscripts that have the name "Jehovah." The Witnesses' own Bible version does not have Jesus uttering the name "Jehovah" in prayer.

If the JW returns, keep asking the same questions. They will not have any direct answers for them.

If the JW does return ask if they have a Greek interlinear of the New Testament. That's a Bible version with the Greek text and a word-for-word translation under the Greek text. Ask them:

"Is the name "Jehovah" in the Greek text of your interlinear?"

The answer again is no. All they can do at this point is cite those Hebrew translations that date over 1,000 years later than the Greek text.

Hopefully, you will have planted a seed of doubt that might come to fruition someday. This is, after all, not a peripheral issue for a Jehovah's Witness. This is a pillar of their faith. Yet, if they accept the New Testament as it was originally written they'd have to admit that neither Jesus nor the early Christians emphasized the name Jehovah.

According to the Revelation-climax-book we live in the time of the second woe, but why does the third woe begin with the birth of God's Kingdom?

    John 1 (New International Version)
    The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In every bible John 1:1 says that Jesus is "God " save the NWT which states He is "a god". Now, if the latter is correct what does that make Jesus in light of Paul's words from 1 Corinthians 8 which says there is one true God and other gods are idols i.e false gods?!!!
1 Corinthians 8:5-6 (New International Version)

5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

ninja... pedophiles could be enormous... ...

....but sadly, they're not that easy to spot. Perhaps it should be reworded to say...

"Did you know you have an enormous problem with pedophiles in your organization?"

But that put my question to 13 words. Can I still use it?
