    Lie # 4.

At that, Jesus tells Nicodemus a profound truth about the need to be "born again" in order to enter the Kingdom of God.

Let's take a look at the conversation that transpired:

    (John 3)

2 One night Nicodemus came to Jesus and said, "Teacher, we know you are a teacher sent from God, because no one can do the miracles you do unless God is with him."

3 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot be in God's kingdom."

This remark was in reply to the insincere flattery of Nicodemus; it was not in the spirit of divulging some secret esoteric information.

Basically, Jesus knew Nicodemus was playing him and his response was in telling him that unless he had a change of heart (born again) he would not understand what the kingdom was about. Jesus knew Nicodemus was corrupt and this is why he advised him in this manner.

    Lie #5

On this occasion, Jesus also says the words: "God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."—John 3:1-16.

Watchtower states as fact that Jesus said these words of John 3:16.

However, the various translations differ on whether this is a direct quote of Jesus or a comment of the narrator of the gospel.

Did Jesus really speak of himself in the third person? Is this not an indication that this claim of his divinity was perhaps made by others?

This particular verse was not made public. As far as Bible scripture there are no records of anything like this being said to Jesus' followers or to the crowds.

How much weight of Jesus' divinity hinges on this verse?

    Lie # 6:

"As a ruler of the Jews and a teacher in Israel, Nicodemus has a good knowledge of God’s Word. He also has keen insight, "

According to the scriptural conversation betwenn Nicodemus and Jesus, this cannot be true. As a matter of fact, Jesus criticised Nicodemus for his lack of spiritual understanding while puffing himself up to others as an expert on God's Word.

When Jesus told Nicodemus that one must be born again, Nicodemus resented that Jesus was speaking things that he could not understand.

Nicodemus resented Jesus for chastising him. Jesus condemned 'such blindness in one who was professing to be a teacher of spiritual things.' (John 3:10)

Jesus rebuked him, saying "If you can't even understand earthly things, then how do you expect to understand heavenly things?" (John 3:12)

How difficult it must be for a member of the highest court of the Jews to acknowledge a lowly carpenter’s son as a man sent from God!

It is not difficult at all if it is not said in sincerity. When flattery is used as a technique of theocratic warfare it can be justified, right?

    Whatever it takes, right?

He may become a close associate of Jesus, able to witness firsthand various aspects of Jesus’ life on earth

He "may become"? That is future tense. Nicodemus is dead and gone. History has passed. So answer the question. Did he or did he not become a close associate of Jesus? There is no future "may become"!

This is more trick wording from WT. From scripture, there is no evidence that Jesus ever made any such overature to Nicodemus that he desired for him to become a close friend. As a matter of fact, the scriptural conversation implies Jesus was very reserved in his dealings with this man.

Nicodemus’ interest in this man from Nazareth does not seem to wane. Two and a half years later, at the Festival of Booths, Nicodemus attends a meeting of the Sanhedrin. At this time, Nicodemus is still "one of them."

What is Nicodemus' interest in him and why has this interest not waned? Is it because he still sees Jesus as a threat to his position?

What has Nicodemus done during the past two and a half years to establish a friendship with Jesus? Has he ever visited him again or invited him over to study? Has he shown any interest in learning spiritual things from Jesus?

Why does WT lead us to think that he "may become" a close associate? Does WT mean to imply that he did ...and without any evidence to support this?

Could Nicodemus still be "one of them" if he were a close associate of Jesus? Was "one of them" more than just membership in the Sanhedrin? Could "one of them" have referred to a corrupt inner circle? Was there perhaps an inner circle of corrupt merchants, politicians, and religious law givers?

There is absolutely nothing revealed in scripture or circumstance to establish any close friendship between Jesus and Nicodemus nor do scriptures give any implication of such!

Jesus put Nicodemus in his place by rebuking him. Perhaps Nicodemus was determined to get even with Jesus for seeing through his motives.

Most of this is just reading the scriptures--putting aside the preconcieved notions that have been taught-- and picking the verses apart, looking for double meanings and straight face value as well.

Take a look at this. (Saint Nicodemus)

Let's just say I have my conspiracy theories about Nicodemus and a few others.
