Acts 15 "......ABSTAIN from blood, and fornication..."

One transfusion of hemophiliac treatment can use hundreds of bags of blood! The process uses up alot of blood supplies. But Witness hemophiliacs are greatful for this....yet donating blood to help our "brothers" is a disfellowshiping offence??? Thank God for kind worldly people!

Funny how the scripture in Acts 15 is abused by sick Witnesses who think the term "Abstain" can be used loosely and is flexible.

It's actually ~3 million donors per dose.

But I'm betting the jw Hemophiliacs, past and present, are not draining the blood banks dry. They're too busy taking dirt naps for refusing Satan's Tainted Medication TM . (ETA: That would have been a lot funnier if I said Satan's Demonic Tonic TM . It rhymes.)

(And for anyone who's about to be offended by my irreverence, I'm one of the ones of whom I speak. I just happened to survive, despite wts' best efforts to deadify me.)

Some Hemophiliacs are fortunate these days because they're able to take one of the synthetic medications.

So how many ex-jws that can medically are donating? Not many of my non-jw co-workers donate either yet they would take a transfusion in a second or want their child to have access to hemophiliac solutions. I can't even think of one jw hemophiliac I have ever known.

Yeah, cause certainly there are 5 or 6 million JW hemophiliacs, out of the 7 million total....

At the risk of sounding repetitive...there's so much legitimate stuff to criticize JWs over...."draining the blood blanks dry" is just stupid exaggeration and makes you look foolish.

The legitimate criticism is that a JW can use blood that has been donated by a non-JW, stored, separated into fractions, but is not allowed by the organization to donate to help replenish the supply.

I am very glad that fractions are allowed, for it has most likely saved many lives. I would venture to guess that there are very few 'transfusions' that are not allowed any more.

Well there aren't all that many people who are ALLOWED to donate! You start going thought that list of things and the vast majority are disqualified. I went in with about a dozen other students to donate and out of ALL of them I was the only one allowed to donate!

If we are using Hemophilia in its general term (disorders causing inadequate clotting), then it's maybe 5% of the population. The vast majority of them will not need to take blood fractions made from human blood. Maybe .8% of them will.

If there are 7 million dubs, that means maybe 70,000 will need to use fractions. Some of them will need them infrequently or just in emergencies/for surgery (like me). Others wouldn't take fractions anyway, notwithstanding the religious issue (no health insurance, not diagnosed properly, no access to proper medication, noncompliant patients).

Still, if 3 million donors are needed for each unit of clotting factor, this still means an immense amount of donated blood is needed to treat these folks.

I don't know if, in the manufacturing process, the other parts of the 3 million units are saved to manufacture other products. I imagine they are.

    I don't think W007 is being ignorant.

Hemofil M and Alphanate are pooled products but there are more and more commercial preparations (e.g. Xyntha, Helixate, Kogenate) that are produced recominantly

Even factor IX is available recominantly (e.g. Benefix)

This might not mean a whole lot when we're speaking about the geneal population, but I've been told that practicing JW's overwhelmingly prefer the recombinant products.

Sorry to hear of your condition, Rebel 8

They say I am too old to be accepted now as a doner
