The list above is based on the current DPA forms, articles in medical literature and The Watchtower I'm sure there's a comprehensive single-source list somewhere, but not being a JW, I don't have access to it.

--I can give a reference though if something on this list is in question

Read your bible, and make up your own mind. While you do that, know that blood is a tissue and the body doesn't "eat it" when you get a transfusion. Moreover, Jesus condemned the Pharisees for violating their sabbath law restrictions to save property, but were pissed when someone got healed on the sabbath. JW's violate the value of Jesus shed blood by elevating a tissue above a human life.

I think the point of this thread was missed with this comment. It's not a question of what the bible says or one's belief, the questions are related to trying to figure out exactly what specific procedures would be considered a 'conscience' matter and which ones would be viewed as 'prohibited' by current JW thinking.

I don't know percentages, but a high percentage of transfusions are still not allowed under current Watchtower blood doctrine. Forbidden are

    • whole blood
    • red blood cells
    • white blood cells
    • platelets
    • plasma

Though whole blood is rarely transfused, the major components such as red blood cells form a large portion of total transfusions.

    TD,

I believe they also allow the storage of cord blood, for possible stem cell harvest at a later date.
