Brocephus, I knew of Presiding Overseer and Fire Chief. He died at his home after climbing on tall ladder, he just fell to his death. Yes, JWs can be firefighters.

I knew his wife back in 2005 and she and her beautiful girls are the ones I am thinking about. I am surprised that the article mentioned her. Back then, they had split up (which was a VERY hard choice for her as she is a Witness) due to his constant visitation of porn sites. It does not surprise me at all that he got caught. She was upset by this vilation of marital trust but also because he so flagrantly went outside Witness behavior. I know she loved him, which may be why she ended up back with him, but his wife and girls are out there. They need our support. I know it can seem like crimes are racially biased, bu in this case, race has nothing to do with it. Balck, white, whatever - he did something very wrong, disgusting and unforgivable.

I don't think this is new. Why wouldn't they be able to be firefighters? My understanding is that in some areas lots of JWs are firefighters, its a relatively good-paying job that doesn't require any evil higher education.

Re being a fireman ? I have known J W 's in the UK who were firemen and paramedics..they seem to get around the work schedules and even be elders. Am I right in thinking that a fire officer at 911 who died, was a J W?

SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield firefighter was released on $50,000 bail Wednesday after being arrested on a five-count child pornography indictment.
Brian C. Wilkerson was arrested by federal agents at Fire Department headquarters around at 8:30 a.m. , and appeared later in U.S. District Court for a bail hearing.
A grand jury indictment issued Tuesday accused Wilkerson of four counts of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing it.Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen H. Breslow said that in one "particularly bold and brazen" instance, the defendant viewed child pornography at Fire Department headquarters last September.
Breslow said the indictment covers a period of three years, from August 2005 to September 2008.
"This is not a one-time lapse in judgment," Breslow said, adding that some images involved sadomasochism and pre-pubescent minors.
U.S. Magistrate Kenneth P. Neiman rejected Breslow's request for $100,000 bail, setting the figure at $50,000. He ordered Wilkerson to stay away from the Internet and from potential witnesses in the case, and imposed a 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew with electronic monitoring.
Wilkerson, who glanced briefly at his wife at the start of the hearing, spoke only briefly while answering questions from Neiman.
He will be arraigned June 16 on the charges, which carry a minimum mandatory prison term of 60 months.
Fire Department spokesman Dennis G. Leger said Wilkerson has been suspended without pay and could be subject to further disciplinary charges -

I guess I was close... Fireman was definitley by next choice but I gave up.
