All they need is to get just enough people to believe that they are harmless and even beneficial, and they could seize control of the government. At which point, they will be like the Catholic church was when it plunged mankind into the First Dark Ages. They shut down the competition and demanded under threat of being burned at the stake that everyone be Catholic--hardly a fringe group, yet hardly harmless.

Religions now have evolved with time, as Catholics, Baptists, etc., especially this last century. But now with the "information age" (Internet) I don't think the Watchtower organization can evolve fast enough. Its stance on education, discouraging college, it hard-nose rigid stance on blood transfusions at the cost of their own peoples lives, hard-nose stance on shunning toward their own families. Their arrogance and rigidity will break them. I don't think they have the creativity to make the gap to be able to mainstream successfully. They are caught in their own trap. It will dwindle.

Their attempts at loosening some things (blood fractions, number of meetings, etc.) don't outweigh the hardline stance they've maintained. Their stance has not always been consistent, however, which leads me to believe there are significant pressures from within the GB to ease up on things. You can see it happen even now, with TR still not dead yet (god I hope that jerk goes soon).

I speak with no real knowledge of the background of the org, but the information age is going to be the downfall.....I think growth will be in the global south....
