Josie, the two of us with our buddha/christ like demeanor must really make the mad shoppers nuts:)

I was thinking about the one thing that has irritated me lately. In the dairy dept. there is always a few milks really approaching sell by dates (or worse) beyond them. Why don't they train staff to put the oldest items in the place most likely to be picked up first so that there will NEVER be milk that is turning still in the sales case? That is just good management. There is a particular place that will be grabbed first, blindly, by men who don't know to check, and it isn't the bottom right hand corner. They need to be logical. I know that they go through milk enough that there should NEVER be old milk there and there was about 12 different sell by dates in the cabinet recently, one of which was two days previous. No excuse for that.

All stores are required to practice FIFO, first in, first out. But customers often reach and rearrange so that they can have the newer items from the back. Occasionally you will have stockers who are in a hurry or are lazy who don't practice careful FIFO.

oh my goodness... do NOT get me started.

I worked retail in a discount chain from 1984-1991. (Anyone remember Venture? ..same chain as Caldor on the east coast ...both gone now)

I did janitorial for Target for 2 years for a contractor. Target is still my preferred retailer. Walmart is the spawn of the devil.

I have done merchandising for multiple companies in all of the big chains and some of the locals.. there are some very interesting secrets about how things are set up.... ever get the feeling they have moved things around just to mess with you? It's true. They are. You aren't paranoid.

    I should write a book.

Leo, I practically have your location pinpointed on the map Have you ever been to The Milk Pail Market? It's actually in Mountain View. I love that place. Now it's 40 miles away. I miss it.

I get aggravated by the severly obese who whirr up behind you in their fatmobiles. I had one motion for me to get out of his way, "Coming through!" He urgently needed to reach for his chips and soda. I can't help thinking they'd be healthier if they got out and walked a bit to the fresh fruit aisle, sigh. However, this is a politically incorrect attitude. I need to accomodate these motorized -oversized as they rush to the ice cream freezer.

LOL yeah I go to the Milk Pail all the time! Maybe even every weekend. I love that place too. "We Are a European Style Open-Air Market". :)

They recently redesigned it. There is a little bit more room to move around. I am sure you remember how cramped it has been.

I am in WA state, and excuse me, but Costco was INVENTED here;) All that 'Kirkland Signature' branded stuff? I think Kirkland(WA) is where they started out.

If I ever go to CA, we will have to check out the local shops:)

Since I work for Club Demonstration Services, who does all demos for Costco, excuse me, but we are required to know all about Costco, Kirkland the town of Costco's origin and the Kirkland Brand. "Costco guarantees that the Kirkland Brand will be as good as if not better than the national brands or they will give you your money back." I say it 500 times or so everytime I demo a Kirkland product. Everyone says the coffee is better than the national brands. I agree. Costcos are all over the world now. Our company just won the contract for the Costcos in Australia. So if you go into a Costco, be nice to the demo people. They secretly wish, on busy days when Costco customers act like famished zombies after brains, that they could stab your hand with a fork. Have a nice day and thank you so much for listening and trying my product. Take some home today. We also will be doing all of their roadshows and special events now. We're that good.

I am annoyed at how Costco insists to examine your receipt as you are leaving the store. This seems to serve no real useful purpose (a brief scan at the receipt without looking through the objects in the cart, what good does that do?), other than making the customers feel like they are under suspicion and making customers stand in more long lines in order to exit the store.

Many stores do that, Leo. They discourage shoplifters by examining every receipt. But they single no one out. No one can say Costco was harrassing them because Costco checks all receipts. But if you haven't shopped and have no merchandise or you have an Rx in a stapled bag, they don't check.
