    Touche, restrangled.

I don't spend much time on finish anyway. Modern finishes last forever, and all I care about is if that damn thing works. I usually keep a car a good while. My Jetta has given me the vapors this year, however. I am itching to replace it, but it is running good right now, and if I can squeeze a few more months out of it, so much the better. Longtime married guys, image doesn't matter too much anymore. Or maybe I am just a cheap bastard. I want a Jeep Wrangler, just so I can drive in waist deep water. Good escape plan if we have a bad tropical storm or a forest fire. My 1990 Trooper mudpuppy is getting to the point where I should just donate it to charity. We've had great times. I've gotten lucky on it, in it, and against it.

Burns for heaven sakes I was serious about how smart you were....you silly goose!

I'm maintaning a 2005 Mustang with a V8 engine so I'm pretty hyper about taking care of it.

No sun, wash it every week, etc. My mileage is 39,000. most of that is is not by me. It would still be under 20,000.00 if I had

been the only one driving.....you know, the typical old lady car!!!!!

I totally agree that you should get as much out of your car as possible. I did that myself. But if you do decide to replace it, NOW is the time to buy. You just can't beat $0 down and 0 % financing. And, if you put a little bit down and do a trade in, the deal is even sweeter.

There are some great deals out there and everybody is fighting for your business. When I was thinking about buying a used car, my credit union and Toyota Financing got into a percentage bidding war. They kept low balling each other. It was a damn good time.

robdar. i worked on cars for years and now i sell them. so, here's the low down

the "apperance package" or anything with weird names like that are strictly profit for dealers. i used to work for a dealership that made us sell them. now, it is a lie, they don't do a thing after the sale. if you pay attention, they will take your car in the back to get detailed. they usually will apply a coating of wax if it's a reputable dealer. other than that, they don't do anything. your going to get the same detail weather you pay for the package or not. alot of times, the apperance packages and other items like this are the only profit the salesman makes. that's why they push for it so much.

the dealer has alot of what's called "hold back" it's profit built into the car. it's included in the sticker price. it's profit for the dealership that not many people know about. now, there's nothing wrong with us making a profit. people come in looking for the "best deal" and even when you give it to them, people will go down the street and use that price to try to muscle a better deal at another dealership. this is why we do business the way we do. it's frustrating. the first thing i learned in the business is if a customers mouth is open, he's lying. customers lie more and faster than we ever will. so, i have to work deals and beat you down to try to keep as much profit as possible. people come in to do war with the salesman expecting to get ripped off. so, we artifically inflate prices to let you talk us down to a price where we can make money and you can feel like you got a good deal.

what sucks is the salesman is fighting to scratch a living while the dealership makes most of the profit. i'm all about capatalism. i know if i want to make all the money, i can go open a lot of my own. i'm not willing to put my money on the line, so, until i am i just have to live with it. if you have any questions fell free to e-mail me.

as far as what you can do to keep your car looking good, a good wax and keeping it clean is the best way to go. if you wash your car, and the water doesn't bead, it's time to re-apply. it's hard to say how many times you should re-apply a wax. it's going to depend what kind of environment you live in and what kind of wax you use.

as far as the 0% interest rates everyones talking about, you have to have awesome credit, and, alot of times, the only way to get it is to pay full sticker. you do better taking the rebates and getting the lowest a.p.r. possible most of the time.

So Rodbar....go for it...get a fast fun car....It's a thrill every time you get in, going to the grocery store, or ......god help you when you get on the open high way. Nothing like getting thrown back in the front seat as you take off!

You only live once, ....enjoy and let an engine take you away for a few minutes!

This car has been a joy....no probs...an absolute dream car.

    Have some fun.

Those late model Fords. They seem to be pretty well made, don't they? Just solid. Not necessarily works of art like the Euro makes, but solid. My wife's 2003 Expedition has 120k of the most trouble free miles I have ever seen out of a vehicle in my life, and as a bit of a tech geek with an (sadly expired) aircraft mechanic's license, that works in IT, and writes on the side about emerging tech, I have strong opinions. They sure didn't make them like that in the old days, did they?

    Great advice. Thank you.

I agree, sales guys need to make money too. I've worked in sales and I never went in to a dealership trying to cut anybody's throat. Of course, I didn't want my throat cut either. What is the phrase? "Take off their head."

As far as 0% financing goes, I have excellent credit. When they ran my score, they almost did back flips. I did a trade in and put a little cash down and got a great monthly rate at 0% for 60 months. And there is no penalty for early payoff which I intend to do.

Mustangs are a joy. My first husband used to restore them. It was always fun to drive them around town.

I did test drive a sporty 2007 Volvo that blew my hair back. It was fun to drive and I qualified to buy it but didn't want the heavy repair price if something eventually went wrong with it.

I looked at a Mustang and loved it but decided I really needed reliability and went with a Toyota. And truth be told, the Yaris has a lot of gitup and go. It's a five speed manual and I love driving it. It even has cruise control for 5th gear. Even though I love the car and expect to drive it for years, I have decided that I will go "sporty" for my next vehicle. I will definitely keep Mustang in mind.
