I dont think there is any mention of a rudder or navagation system. I do suspect
there was a Noah Character in history.
Zechariah Sitchin speaks of Upnapshitm in the Summerian text.
Man was genetically engineered to be slaves here on earth for the alien astronauts.
Just like if we go to mars and decide to engineer a part human being or modify a
human being to work slave for us on Mars.
When the gods, astronauts saw that the polar caps were going to slide into the ocean
causing a great tsusami they preserved some of their genetic engineerings in the ark
which the text say was more of a submarine.
Today the world is governed by the decendants from Nibiru.
Those decended farther away from the astronauts are the worker
bees and cannon fodder.
This was all written down and explained when civilization began in Sumer.

I always assumed the ark 'floated' willy nilly with no direction (oh, the irony) - until it came to rest.

How could he navigate by the stars if it was pouring with rain?

Because there was a "water canopy" above the earth Noah probably was craping his robe when he saw stars for the first time!
