Oh man! You're bringing up a lot of stuff lately!
I don't know if this is OCD...maybe you can tell me.
This happened many years ago. I had a dog. One day I left for work. When I got to work, I just had a weird feeling I cannot explain. I left and went back home. I arrived to find several fire engines in the alley. I had to park half block away and ran past the fireman to my apt. I did not know where exactly the fire was--there was smoke everywhere. All I could think was that my dog was inside and I had to get to her.
It turned out it was the building connected to mine. (It was unoccupied floor over a business where supplies, chemicals, etc were stored.) My apt. was in danger of being burned as the fire was traveling rapidly. (The buildings were brick.)
Coco, I can't say exactly when my "OCD" started (if that's what it was) but it was not long afterward that I realized it was becoming inconvenient as my weirdness of "checking and re-checking"...getting half way to a destination and then turning around and going back home, just to make sure everything was OK. This went on for years! (Not all the time, but more frequently than what I would consider "normal") I had never been like that before.
I think I gradually outgrew it. I can only remember once in the past couple of years turning around to go back home to check things.
I haven't thought about all this in a long time. I think when my dog died (ripe old age) that that's when I began to grow out of that compulsion of worry or whatever it was. She was just the most precious thing to me.
Can OCD occur with frequency but not be consistent on a daily basis? Would you say this was OCD?

If you or a loved one really are suffering because of this, I would recommend proper therapy, e.g Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
A couple of usefull workbooks"The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" and "The OCD workbook" "Your guide to breaking free from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder" are usefull information- wise, both available from Amazon. (Info came from "Rebel 8" of this board)

I have it over jw issues
and so does anyone else who has posted here over 3000 times.................oompa
well...not just jw issues but how it has effected my life during and after....
and maybe not 3000 times, but even 1000 times....oompa
jw issues are all invasive, dress, job, sex, marriage
so you may be obsessive if you think of jw things ten times a day....oompa
jw issues are just so hard to let go for many...
so maybe ocd is in order if it goes up to 5000 posts a day....oompa
jw issues are just sooo fluckkin in your head all the time....
so maybe if you even think about jw stuff three times a day you are occ?........oompa
geeze i wish i could let this jw issue crap go!
but maybe it is just normal to think about it 24/7...............................get the picture?.............oompa

It's quite common to have an obsession or two, that's not OCD.
I am uncomfortable if my spices are not in alphabetical order, though there are other things in my house that are in disarray and I'm not the least concerned.
I watch the ground so closely when walking that I'm knnown for finding interesting items. I'm really doing it because I feel a need to equalize the number of cracks I step on with the left and right feet. I don't let myself act on this thought, I just live with the discomfort. :D

Intersesting.... I challenged all habits after leaving jws....
This blew my ego away, so I understood the humanity in conscious habit but the devil is in unconscious repetition.
Awareness in action!!

the behaviours manifested by
people with an OCD Dx are
irrational compulsions...a mate of mine from a forum
supporting adult survivors of
childhood sexual abuse has
tremendous difficulties and
is unable to work because of it......quite sad really....
my one, ok, two compulsive
issues that i am actually finding
are becoming less and less obsessive
as i get deeper into my genuine life....1) i count, specifically elements
of spoken language.... sentences in paragraphs,
words in sentences, letters in words.....
and it really REALLY is uncomfortable
for me when the count ends on an even number2) i "write" on my thumbnail with my index finger...
ambidextriously, when someone is talking or i am
deep in thought, spelling out the words they are
saying or that i am thinking.....nothing about these practices intereferes
with my quality of life, and i have few friends
who actually notice.... one in particular always
asks: what are you writing? ....
