Did Everyone Really Love Michael Jackson? (I'm Confused)

  MINIMUS- I agree about Farrah Fawcett. I feel sorry for her family and Ryan O'Neal since her life and what she accomplished has not been discussed much either. I read that after her role in the movie " The Burning Bed " where she played the role of an abused wife - that she joined an organization helping victims of spousal abuse in a very real proactive way.

  Ironic isn't it that here we have a public figure Michael Jackson being almost deified after his death due to his musical influence, but his alleged abuse of children ignored or strange behavior justified , i.e. giving minors wine , sitting with them looking at porno , hanging his infant child out a 2nd story window. You know, normal stuff like that.

  Yet we have Farrah Fawcett who fought against spousal abuse and helped victims - yet compared to the attention Jackson is getting - it's like she never died. Ridiculous

  What can I say? I just wasn't into Farrah much. She was attractive but I didn't think she was that beautiful--just some blonde hair and teeth. Pretty good actor--so so. Her talent was not that of Michael Jackson's. I am sure she had her good qualities and bad. Even as Michael did. And she was never a JW. Michael was. I can relate to that. I can also relate to him being an artist and a freak.

  I agree and this is why the other side of the story is provides some balance. It is amazing to me how many people think that the jury's verdict meant MJ was literally "innocent."

  But, with all due respect, do you know that he was guilty? Nope. His guilt or innocence is mere speculation at this point.

  It is ashame Farah fawcett died. For me I'm 32. MJ was big before I was born...when I was in the 1st/23nd grade he REALLY blew up with Thriller...I mean they guy sold a zillion records, had money coming out his ears, and if you ever been to Asia ( JAPAN ) the guy is HUGE....like Godzilla huge. I've been there and the Japanese LOVE micheal jackson...as do many people in Asia/Europe and anywhere else.

  He had star power only a few did...and when I say I a few...The Beatles/Micheal Jackson/Elvis....and the list starts to taper off for me as far as people/groups that had that kind of draw.

  I don't think anyone is ignoring Fawcett,but she is well known here....but again..if you hated the guy or liked him,he had fans from a broad spectrum of generations,myself included. I like music from all his albums..even before my time ( Jakson 5 ) Dance Machine being one that jumps out at me.

  To answer the OP questions. I think the people who loved him outnumber those who don't. He was loved by ALOT of people. I mean European and Japanese kids passing oput and crying for a 50 year old guy ? His music was timeless. I loved him,but I at the same time I was disappointed at the decisions he would make. I think he had a great heart......but was the worst decision maker in the world at times.

  I attribute that to the fact that they were witnesses at one time....and an interview they showed of him last night and how he said they were absolutely terrified of their father and that Joe Jackson would -for a lack iof better words.........knock their a$$ out if they screwed up and he felt pressured to do things right because his dad used him as an example to the others.

  Flipper - It is very sad about Farah, however outside US she really isn't that big - there has been virtually no coverage of her death over here in the UK. If you ask kids about Charlies Angels, they would most likely think of Drew, Cameron and Lucy. Besides Charlies Angels I would be hard pressed to tell you anything else about her. However Michael Jackson is known and admired the world over .

  Also Farah's illness was well documented, whereas the death of MJ is just a total shock - I still can't believe it

  Those of who liked him.....it was tough to explain away alot. I have been guilty of it myself.

  I guess we will never really understand what happened to Michael Jackson. I know he was brilliant and created a lot of wonderful music . I personally feel he was a very tortured soul and mentally ill at the end. Since I have been through a dark night of my soul a few times- I find it difficult to judge him. He died a shell of a human being.

  The suddenness of his death is probably what is getting people. Farah was ill for a long time. She probably did more substantive good than MJ did though. As human beings we are not always rational. Emotions take over in so many situations. Which is probably why there can be such a dichotomy in how MJ is viewed, both adored and seen as strange all at once.
