and no counselling whatsoever from the elders, etc
although not bone marrow, but close

I feel for you and yours, I made this decision and it is not easy to do or live with afterwards.
I just joined the Bone Marrow Registry the other day. They send you a swab kit to collect cheek cells from the inside of your mouth.
Thanks so much for all your comments.....it means alot. The latest is that his brother is now willing to be tested for the bone marrow to see if he's a match. I guess they will give him a shot of EPO to stimulate alot of stem cells and they'll do the test. Even though they're not identical twins, I'm just praying that it's a match. If he can get a match from a relative, then that's half the battle.
