They are trying to reduce Jesus to the level of Moses. Notably, Moses did not teach anyone to think independently, nor did he try. Jesus did. Moses did not die trying to set mankind free; Jesus did. Moses gave people a code of rules to live by; Jesus tried to do away with living by a code. And the washtowel is trying to tell me that the two were similar--that Moses, by creating a code of rules, pictured Jesus who attempted to destroy the need for such code.
Fully integrated honesty? Don't look for it in these washtowel articles.

The Almighty Homer
I wonder if they would be honest and say we became god's solemn organization through intellectual dishonesty, manipulation
and exploitation of the bible to become an enormous and profitable religious publishing house ?
SMACK ...... thanks I needed that
Power under a false pretense is still power, men will certainly take it if its there.

Philip Schaff quote in the Watchtower? COOL! He's a Lutheran theologian/author from the 19th century. I think that quote is from his book on Christ. He also has a multi-volume tome on church history that is highly regarded. It is indeed srange that they would quote him in the WT, but wouldn't 'approve' or 'allow' Witnesses to read Schaff's works. :( I believe reading an excellent in-depth church history, would be extremely helpful in seeing the WT for what it is. Pointing to a few awful episodes in church history gives only a distorted view, as it leaves out the rest! Christians of all stripes really do stand on the shoulders of giants, not on the shoulders of a twenty-something who said he would now sit down and REALLY figure out the Bible for the first time in history! ROFL. William Miller, Joseph Smith, etc. did the same thing.
PS I'm not looking for an extended argument here, Schaff is one of my favorite authors, and i'm just basically commenting on the WT quoting him. I'm too menopausal to aruge about Christendom or church history today. THank you.

Most people think of a prophet as someone who foretells the future, but that is only part of a prophet's responsibility. A true prophet is an inspired spokesman for Jehovah, one who proclaims "the magnificent things of God." (Acts 2:11,16,17) Among other things, his prophesying could include announcing future events, revealing aspects of Jehovah's purpose, or proclaiming God's judgments.
Say what? I did a double take on this.

w72 4/1 p. 197 'They Shall Know that a Prophet Was Among Them'
So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come?
IDENTIFYING THE "PROPHET"
These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet? ...
... This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses. They are still proclaiming a warning, and have been joined and assisted in their commissioned work by hundreds of thousands of persons who have listened to their message with belief.
Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record.
w76 5/15 p. 297 Preaching Christ-Through Envy or Goodwill?
Jehovah's Witnesses as modern-day Christians are working hard to get this good news preached to every individual. They do not claim infallibility or perfection. Neither are they inspired prophets.
---
Does this mean, then, that an UNinspired spokesman for Jehovah is NOT a true prophet? Surely, by implication that must be so. Oops.

The reciprocal of Jesus being a so called greater Moses is that Moses is a lesser Christ.
Is the groupthink of the writing department so strong that no one points out when something sounds so corny?
