I agree completely LWT! Philadelphia Story is one of my all time favorite movies. Rear Window as well. I have to add Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and Calling Northside 777. If you ever get a chance to see that one, take it.

This one is dark and really good: Anatomy of a Murder.
By the way, I once heard that he tackled roles with dark themes AFTER he returned from WWII.
