Poppers it would have been half way more or less between Chicago and Ladysmith
Wisconsin...when we hit route 8 heading into Bruce we were almost there. Seems it was some where off of 27....does that make sense? Its been so many years now.

I'd love to know the name of the town we where we always pulled off.

I looked at that picture before I read your post and I thought that looks like Tucker. I live about 15 minutes from that spot.
I have vague memories of the soda fountain at Woolworths. They closed the last Woolworth's in Atlanta about 25 years ago. I don't really remember vanilla cokes or cherry cokes. They were a little before my time.

Did you ever go to the Woolworths at North Dekalb Mall? I have many happy memories from shopping there. I still have photos taken in the photo booth, 4 for 25 cents. We had a Woolworth's in Cartersville with a snack / luncheon counter. And Lenox Square Mall by Buckhead had a Kresges that was two story with a snack /luncheon /counter, an elevator and an escalator.

I spent a summer in Gaithersburg, MD. There was a drug store with a soda fountain. It's a mattress store now.

After seeing FHN's pic, I Google earthed my fave from 40 years ago. A multistory apartment block was being constructed there when the camera car went past. Sad.

It was a great watering hole. Juke box, pool table, a couple of pin ball machines, tables and chairs. That was all we needed. Space Invaders arrived while I was there.

There were only three of us JW kids that frequented it.

Two of us were on the way out, the other ended up brain dead. Literally. He had an accident.

They would have been great days if it wasn't for the guilt.

    Cheers

    e?

Lots of possibilities there: Baraboo, Lake Delton, Lyndon Station, Mauston, New Lisbon, Tomah, Black River Falls, Merrilan, Fairchild, Augusta, Cadott. By the way, Bruce is only 24 miles west of Cameron on US Highway 8.

Make that 24 miles east of Cameron.

Hey, truthsetonefree, if you're a native New Yorker like me, do "egg creams" ring a bell?

No eggs, no cream. Chocolate syrup, plain milk, seltzer water (not exactly sure of the order).

Back in "thee old nayba-hood" in the Bronx where I was "bawn", there was a fountain shop where my mom and my dad used to get them as kids. My mother took me there when I was about ten, to sit at the counter and soak up the history. Yay!

Some of the older diners here in North Jersey have egg creams on the menu, but I have yet to see someone order one, excepting myself. Growing up JW, we have so few family traditions, and this is one even Jehovah could approve of. ;–)

Poppers, I remember now! It was in Black River Falls.

Did you go to the Ladysmith KH?
