Humans that cause human/animal suffering...how does this happen?

Sorry, a very depressing topic, but it goes on all the time.

I watched a special last night called Escaped....it was true stories about people who were kidnapped, tortured, endured and escaped. A one on one or two scenerio. About innocent women or children here in the States.

But then you think of all the world leaders, and those in our own country who had no problem humiliating and torturing those they hated just recently under the Bush admin. Consider the pedophiles with no care but their own sick needs.

Are people so easily jaded and easily erased of their empathy and kindness?

If you think about how easily animals are abused, neglected, starved etc., and the owners don't seem to have a problem.

I don't understand how this happens, and what is it that shuts off a human being's care and concern of pain experienced by others?

Outlaw, seems there are so many, and get away with it. I guess I should stop watching this stuff, but even that famous foot ball player who was running a dog fighting scam, just got out. So many people were involved, so many dogs had to be put down and were kept in horrible conditions.

Dogs have their ears cut off with a pair of scissors, I just saw one example where the poor dogs had 70 pound chains around their necks out in the heat continually 24/7 to build up their necks.

Neighbors need to get more involved and watch out for each other and their kids, their families and pets.

Maybe sometimes its a power/control thing. "why do you do that?" - "because I can"

Don't ever look at what goes on behind greyhound racing

Sad Emo, here in our county we have 2 huge grey hound racing tracks. Most dogs are put up for adoption after their money making days are over. I've heard horror stories.....why gambling is illegal but you can bet on the dogs in Florida just seems insane.

that famous football player should be "put down" for what he did....sick bastard. At least he's bankrupt now...it would suck if they let him play again now! The public should hate scum like this. One of his dogs is being cared for by kid's with special needs school...he in turn brings then joy...what a difference!

Many people, clinically diagnosed as psychopaths, simply have a different type of brain. They have no conscience, are extremely manipulative and, here in the USA, are calculated to make up to 2% of the population. They are found in disproportionate numbers in prisons and corporations, as well as any other hierachy.

Just finished reading an interesting book, Evil Genes by Barbara Oakley, which attempts to explain why psychopaths behave the way they do and how they affect others around them and the society at large.

You are right, and I try to do just that. I have called the humane society a couple of times before, and will not hesitate to do so again if I see an animal being mistreated.

Amen Witness 007....did you see where all his dogs were taken to a place called Dogtown.?....most were in such sad shape they had to be put down....a few were saved, apparently one of the dogs you referenced in your post.

Abuse of people or animals is the worst criminal behavior in my mind, Ignoring what you suspect with some sort of evidence, hear, feel, or see without taking action is the coward's way out. Which applies to child abuse, first and foremost and then abuse of animals.

    Quandry...

On our street, we all know each other's pets, so if they get loose, we hold them and call the owner. We always watched out for each other's kids, but they are grown now. So many of us started here in our 20's, the kids went to school together, all the dogs romped with all the kids.

Everyone played together, ate at each others houses and were friends through highschool and have attended each other's marriages in different states. Its a good feeling. We have had sudden deaths....I remember one of my son's friends ringing my door bell, standing there and asking me, can you help me, Mrs. R........?, I just found my mom dead. ( she was nurse and had died in bed of a blood clot in her leg at around 38)

We parent's watched over our own and each other's like hawks. Thankfully, there was never a problem, but I attribute it to the attention of every person on our block for years.

It takes a community to raise a child, and that is so true.

You don't have to be best friends with your neighbors, but we all need to watch out for each other.
