JD,
Wait for Windows 7, which will be released in October.
Home Premium is what you'll want.
64-bit is not practical for most home users. Vista/Win7 32-bit will take advantage of 3.5 GB of RAM.

Does anyone have an extra floppy drive for my TRS-80? I've had to use the library computer until I can get mine fixed.

Not practical as in overkill, or not useable? I probably won't upgrade. I'm a cheap skate. ;-)
Jd....My other son says Absolutely wait for windows 7 which is an upgraded version of Vista.....Same thing WT said.
He also said its going to be very cheap.

It's a technical issue. If you'd like to read all of the gory details, go here:

I agree. You shouldn't upgrade unless there is a NEED to upgrade. Allow the apps or security to drive the upgrade cycle, if possible.
For those interested in the Cliff Notes version of the RAM limitations of the 32-bit operating systems.
To be perfectly clear, this isn't a Windows problem-- it's an x86 hardware problem. The memory hole is quite literally invisible to the CPU, no matter what 32-bit operating system you choose.
I'm using Windows 7 RC 7260 and I think its great , you can download a copy from Microsoft and they will e-mail you a Product Key,
its valid until March of next year just about everything that works in Vista Driver wise seems to work in Windows 7 ,
but its worth checking out your peripherals first.
Windows 7 will stop people complaining all what annoyed most users of VISTA.
I just ordered an HP (the box only) after looking also at Dell. $384 that includes shipping and tax. A 2.5 Ghz with 350 Gb HD. I'll probably trash the keyboard and mouse since I like what I already have.
I'm retiring my home-brewed 5 year old 3 Ghz dual core. I believe the power supply is faulty.
A bit of heads up -- effective as of a few weeks ago, if you order an OS of Windows Vista Home Premium or better, you will be entitled to a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available. I asked the phone rep how that will happen and he said by downloading -- not by CD.

What are you going to do with your old one?
What are you going to do with your old one?
After I'm done transferring files, I may also want to harvest the burner, the network card (although the new one has both) and turn the current hard drive into the new computer's slave drive.
