1. Dismissal of thousands of Bethalites from Branch offices worldwide.
2. Consolidating of printing operations. They have stopped printing operations in several countries and have transferred the workload to the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, and possibly in the future Canada.
3. Selling real estate in Brooklyn, New York. The 360 FurmanBuilding, Standish Hotel, and several Brownstones helped fill the WTBS bank account with millions. They still have the Bossert Hotel and the Factory Buildings on Adams Street to sell, however the global recession has prevented the WBTS from getting the kind of money they would like for those properties.
4. Eliminating hard-cover books for soft-cover.
5. Encouraging Witnesses worldwide to only take the number of magazines they can realistically can use and not store unused magazines in their homes.
6. Encourage Witnesses to download the audio version of the magazines from the jw.org website instead of requesting a CD from the Magazine Counter. Saves on material, shipping and handling charges.
7. The use of Jehovah Witnesses Assembly Halls for District Conventions. Instead of paying high rental charges for a Stadium or Arena, many District Assemblies are being held in JW Assembly Halls. They have had to schedulemultiple District Assemblies to accomodate the number of people that one Stadium/Arena assembly could hold. The downside of this is that the District Convention has the feel of a Circuit Assembly since only a few thousand show up. Another negative is the constant wear-and-tear the Assembly Halls are sustaining. They were not meant to be used so heavily - it has been mentioned the current arrangement has to change.
The big savings are still in the future. The biggest would come from a new arrangement regarding the District/Circuit Overseers, which would eliminate the need to pay for apartments, leasing cars, and providing healthcare.
