Along the lines of Kudra, I too read many of your posts BonaFide, but don't really have much to say. I take note, and decide if there is anything I can relate to, that perahps I can draw from.

I'm assuming that you MUST have some good "non confrontational" moments with ones in your congregation as well? I wouldnt imagine it to be too long before different ones get to talking about various conversations? You have balance of sorts somewhere in there?

interesting, I know from personal experience, some are just following blindly whatever the slave dictates, others are thinking, trying to understand, but sometimes fail, however, they ususally give up and move on (waiting on Jehovah), or silently disagree on some matters...

I slowly build up the reputation, if they have doubts, they can always talk to me, I never judge them for that, never did, even before my own doubts became manifest....

on the other hand, being in a such a situation is actually more difficult than being a blind follower, i tell you that...everything could be so easy, if you just close your eyes....

    Hi BF,

I brought issues of following the law up with a JW early on when I got to meet some. I asked him if he wears clothes with blended material. He looked at me blankly as he obviously didn't know this verse

    Leviticus 19:19 (New International Version)

    19 " 'Keep my decrees.
" 'Do not mate different kinds of animals.
" 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
" 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Anyhow, undoubtedly he was wearing probably multiple garments made with blended material.

JWs have no understanding of these because then are not "in Christ" and cannot live by the Spirit

    Romans 8:1-2 (New International Version)
1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
2 Corinthians 3:6 (New International Version)

6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

    All the best, Stephen

Your post is so useful to ones like me who find it difficult to talk to Dubs in a way that makes them think. Please post more when you have time.

When the elders ask some of you fading sisters why you missed the meeting last week, you could tell them you're menstruating and are unclean to sit on any public chairs for a week. I'd love to see the look on their faces. Brothers could tell them they have a running discharge from their genitals and so were unclean to worship in God's house.

"Yes, but we are not under the law, look at the verse preceding it, it says not to cut your beard. So we can't pick and choose what verses we want to."

I brought this up many years ago with an Elder, who was going on about some OT command we had to keep, I said what about the verse that says a male "worshipper of Jehovah" should not cut their beard. So in that case shouldn't JW males have beards? Seeing we are "worshippers of Jehovah".

This is so true of the WT they only use OT commandments when it suits their teachings, and ignore the rest. If one applies why not all? Then they go on about how when Christ died it did away with the need to follow the Law of Moses. But the "principles" remain.

jws are so tied to unofficially following the Law code. Are tattoos aren't now connected with false religious practices per the Law code and you apply the following reasong, why are jws worried about the religious nature of the past?

    *** g04 7/8 p. 30 From Our Readers ***

Piñatas I read with interest the article "The Piñata—An Ancient Tradition." (September 22, 2003) It left me with some questions. The ties to false religion are well-documented. But the article seemed to take the position that as long as it doesn’t bother someone’s conscience, it is OK. What about birthdays and holidays such as Christmas?

    S. W., United States

    "Awake!"

responds: Christians refrain from any celebrations or customs that continue to involve false religious beliefs or activities that violate Bible principles. For example, the Bible definitely puts birthday celebrations in a bad light. (Genesis 40:20; Matthew 14:6-10) However, if it is very obvious that a custom has no current false religious significance and involves no violation of Bible principles, each Christian must make a personal decision as to whether he will follow such a custom.

I think the conversation was very interesting - i think some of the things she say back to you is just unbelieveable. Keep em coming! :-)

Thank you for sharing this conversation, BonaFide. Yes, please keep them coming. And please keep on having them with the JWs. If you get through to just one person, it will be worth it. These conversations also demonstrate to a lot of non-JWs the mind-control and circular thinking that occurs within the JWs.

But she sure summed it up....'we can get into trouble if our research is negative towards the Society'.

This screams cult... it's just screams it!
