I've noticed something different at this years district convention

    It was actually interesting?

I know for a fact that contribution boxes werw also out during sessions of the district convention at Copp's (Hamilton, ON) because I did that job for a bit. They had mostly women at the boxes for the times before and after the sessions and the lunch period. But they had us males for a reduced number of boxes closer to the main lobby and entrances. That was only for about an hour and a bit though to cover the time in between the session.

My box was always empty and I didn't have that task for very long. Its not my fault if I'm hideous and no-one wants to approach me.

Although it did keep the Borg starving, so all in all the lemons were lemonade. ;)

The first time I laid eyes on my ex-husband he was in the middle of doing parking attendance. I thought that meant he was a qualified, spiritual brother. Turns out oompa is right.

They've really painted themselves into a corner over this one:

Direct requests for money such as in passing of the plate and/or tithing - result in lots and lots of money. This is what many other religions do and they're rolling in dough.

By contrast, the Watchtower has made such a song and dance in the past about these "practices" they would be embarrassed to use them. But the message coming through is that they're stepping up the more indirect practices of generating an income with not much success.

I think that these desperate financial times will lead to more desperate measures. Don't be surprised if any time soon they become relatively even more blatant in their focus on "requesting" money.

The WTS doesn't need contribution boxes. Jehovah will provide for his earthly organization :)

They can keep those Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund boxes out all winter long (as I keep my "sun-worship" decorations up all summer). But, if they are not creating any value, no one is going to put anything in them.

Also, keeping those boxes open during the program creates a problem. Those who are faithful enough to put money in them will not be milling around during the program; anyone that is milling around would not be putting money there. Plus, if anyone is milling around and does put money in those boxes, someone is going to hound them that they had better return to their seats so they can endure the program. But, it does leave the boxes open for thieves (who would have a better use than protecting pedophiles--like buying and selling drugs).

Having a bank terminal at the a$$embly is simply a bad idea. This means that they can clean out people's bank accounts and put them in debt. If they announce that they have a $800,000 deficit instead of a $3,000 deficit by donating the extra money to the parent organization, it will require people to draw into savings or go into debt to clear the deficit (and the threat of a lockdown until said deficit is paid is another means to coerce people into donating) instead of just wasting their on-hand cash. Now, if only the banks would go after any deposits to the Washtowel Babble and Crap Slaveholdery, put a "temporary" hold on them to allow their debits to clear, and keep hitting them up with fees that would add up to millions of dollars, it might help drain that organization's means to spread into the Third World or plunge mankind into the Second Dark Ages.

I think I would rather see the money stolen and used to buy and sell drugs. At least the drug dealers are not out to ruin the whole civilization.

This year you can also go into debt by contributing via Credit Card!

They have been manned fulltime at our DCs for the last couple years. Last year we had 30 boxes and their locations were promoted frequently between speakers.

The one I visited in June had boxes at every entrance and at the end of every 4th aisle.

Right now I think the DCs are their biggest money makers.
