Yes, it sounds crazy doesn't yet. If a religion went around preaching that today no one would take them seriously, and yet that is what the Watchtower used to preach.

"THE "Time of the End," a period of one hundred and fifteen (115) years, from A.D. 1799 to A.D. 1914, is particularly marked in the Scriptures. "The Day of His Preparation" is another name given to the same period …" Studies in the Scriptures Series 3 Thy Kingdom Come p.23

For more of these quotes about old date predictions see http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1800s.php

My question is - "when will saying that the Time of the End started in 1914 start to sound ridiculous"? In what year do you predict the Watchtower will drop that year?

WT is part of a much larger network.

An all encompassing world wide network of other organizations that are inter-twined.

These religions/mystery cults have a plan to MAKE something happen. Something that will appear to have "fulfilled their prophecies". It's all orchestrated and scripted.

And after they do, they can re-write history and 1914 will not be remembered. It will be a new world.

With one generation of children, separated out of society, history can be re-written and they will never know.

Yes, they change things gradually so over time the latest generation of JW's is not aware of the impact of previous teachings.

They've been slowly moving away the 1914 doctrine for some years now.

I wouldn't be surprised if it plays no part in the average witnesses belief system in the future.

Look at some of our resident apologists on this board, watchtower doctrine is less important to them than it used to be.

As long as its 'the truth' it doesn't matter.

1914 can hardly be scrapped. Although it was originally stated that 1914 would be the END of the end time whereas it is now stated 1914 was told to be the BEGINNING of the end time - it is a pivotal year. It is used for all it is worth. And it leads up to 1918 as the year the resurrection began, 1919 as the year the Slave was appointed, 1922 thru 1928 the Revelation messages were delivered, the days and nights and evenings and mornings of Daniel etc. It can be toned down, not mentioned as frequently, but not dropped, because everyting will then be in a flux. I remember when Daniel 2,44 was mentioned in almost every article. Today it is mentional once a year. But not dropped. Likewise with 1914.

Being an old hippie, I have to agree with the above. Lol

But I can see that the relevence of 1914 has been watered down to the point of "so what" to any young jw. Once the generation belief became invisible, 1914 had to be on the same path e.g. less and less focus, until new light is not even seen as that but "We always taught this!"

And jw's will swallow it too...

    .......see what i mean

1914 is slowly being removed from the psyche of the average witness.

It is becoming less important as it dawns on them that it's just another failed end times prophecy.

I think the significance of year 1914 will become like the significance of the year 33 CE. Meanwhile there are all sorts of imaginative scenarios the GB can play with. Perhaps they'll say that all the praying and witnessing that JWs have been doing has resulted in a sort of repreive as in Jonah's day. Jehovahs forgiveness and love can then be celebrated.

This could have some positive implications for disfellowshipped ones - (GB if you are reading this, get with it)
