Amityville horror house and Roswell UFO's...a good example of myths, lies spread as facts!

    Roswell is where an American Military base tests it's new aircraft...so a UFO happens to crash just down the road!.....hello! The theory took off in the 1970's due to conspiracy books...a miltary offical claimed it was a UFO, he also claimed he was a decorated WW 2 fighter pilot which was proved un-true and he was a known story teller....but the myth took off as more books came out.

    Amityville haunted house - The Lutz family did move out of the house where a family was murdered, probably freaked by the thought. Years later a semi-FICTIONAL book was written claiming pig faced demon attacks and Priests being told to "Get Out"....funny how the demons seemed to move out too...the new owners for the last 30 years only complained about the damn tourists. Lutz made money from his "Amityville" trademark and sued everyone.

    A lie told enough times becomes truth....at least to some.

    IIRC the author who wrote the book about the Roswell Crash was Charles Berlitz, who also wrote about the Bermuda Triangle and the Philadelphia Experiment and the long time favourite myth: Atlantis.

    The borg's article sounds fake....in tough economic times did they have finacial problems and made a cover story to save face?

    1. They heard knocking and a mans voice asked "is anyone there?" 2. Mother saw her child watching TV then found her asleep in bed OOOOOH! Spooky..so what? "Blood" spots on the babies blanket...WTF kind of ghosts do these things?

    One of the center figures in the Roswell incident was Col. Haut. He was non commital for many years but died not so long ago. He left behind an affidavit that carefully testifies to what happened.

    Poltergeist phenomena are often correlated with young people/teenagers so the house might not be relevant.

    I recall an episode of Ghosthunters in which a violent ghost was being searched for. There were two cameramen and one of them just happened to swing his camera over towards the other, who was carrying a bag full of equipment.

    The bag lifted up by itself and smacked the cameraman to the ground. The man was a skeptic who had his worldview wrecked in a second. He laid on the ground for a while in obvious shock.

    Myths and lies are not necessarily the same thing. On the subject of Roswell, Saler, Ziegler, and Moore wrote a great anthropological study on the development of the myth, here is a review:

    I find Roswell particularly interesting because it may be a partial analogy to oral and literary processes of narrative formation in early Christianity. I invoked it in a post last year commenting on Richard Bauckham's book Jesus and the Eyewitnesses and the related claim that having eyewitnesses as oral tradents necessarily rules out creative midrashic activity in gospel narratives.
