Unless of course you just hurry it along and get married. Then there isn't a whole lot they can do.

That is correct - dating and marriage outside of the 'truth' is nearly always frowned upon. This is why you get a lot of JWs frantically trying to convert 'wordly' people if they allow such a relationship to develop.

Marrying a non-jw is definitely frowned upon. JW brothers and sisters who have privileges such as being a regular pioneer, will most likely lose those congregation privileges if they marry a non-believer. I have known three sisters who married unbelievers and were not ostracized by the congregation. They were not pioneers either. An elder even tried to study with one of the unbelieving husbands.

This has been quite a common denominator throughout as long as I can remember. "Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers" is the scripture they use to back this one up--and there have been numerous Washtowel articles about this. The 11/1/1989 washtowel has a pair of sex-killer articles, the second being not dating or marrying people that are not witlesses. They more recently had part of this in the April 2008 Kool-Aid washtowel.

Besides washtowel study articles, you are always reminded every single time there is a big, great, or grand boasting session. They always have at least one part against witlesses dating worldly people--often segued to a part where they are not even supposed to associate too much with worldly people (=any association that is not absolutely necessary or is not part of recruitment). They cannot use the Kingdumb Hell for such marriages, they can get "marked" as bad associations, and the hounders will not solemnize a marriage between a witless and a worldly person. And, since dating is supposed to be strictly for marriage-bound people, it too is not allowed.

From what I have seen, they have procedures for marrying unbelievers. The first step is to get the unbeliever to become a believer, and they have to be baptized. They also have rules against marrying someone too soon after, which they are indefinite about "too soon". This allows someone (who is not as closely watched as you are) the chance to take the person out from under your feet (and the hounders will tell them that they are making an "unwise" decision in doing so too soon after baptism). The real purpose is so that, if they have singled someone out for the Value Destroyer Training School or to specialize them in witlessing to other men, they are assured that this person is not going to be able to get married and not qualify for this.

Dating a non witness, a "worldly" person is highly discouraged and disciplinary action is also taken. When dating a so called "worldly" person, the witness involved runs the risk of have the local congregation, under the direction of the Watchtower Society, use their interpretation of 2 Thessalonians 3:6, 14 on them. This person becomes "marked" and although will still be spoken to, all social activities will cease and a judgemental attitude and perception of this individual will be created, causing mental pressure and hardship, all designed to pressure this person to either stop dating this so called "wordly person" or have them start studying to become a Jehovah's Witness and start attending the meetings themselves. In addition, any witness who marries outside of the religion, is considered to be breaking Apostle Paul's words to " marry only in the Lord ."

The policy of forbidding marriage to anyone but an approved JW members is inhumane and insane, a feature of apostasy. Using Hebrew texts to support the marriage restrictions is incorrect because we are not natural Jews. Even in ancient Jewry, Jehovah was not as rigid as the WT suposes Him to be, i.e., Solomon had God's favor even though he was married to a non-Israelite, Esther married an immoral and savage Persian, Moses married a Middianite, Israelite soldiers could marry their beautiful war slaves, etc. And how did Ruth come to love Naomi so much, if Naomi's attitude toward her had been cruel and unloving and she had pushed Ruth away? There is no justification for losing privileges or the harsh judgment upon a person who marries a non-believer. The "marry only in the Lord" rule is clearly a text that applies to those who expect to rule in the Kingdom, the way their archetypes (Jewish priests) were restricted to Levite wives.

    Good points!
