so that is his form of an apology?.......that was not an apology obviously.......as a conservative republican who switched over to supporting obama mainly for his health care policy........this is the most disappointed i have been in him.......first the stupidly comment about the police and a situation he already he said he did not know the details about........then this "i am too proud to say im sorry" speachy think like WTBTS would do......just awful imo.......oompa

"Calibrate?" This is a word that connotes precise measurement. He's usually very very careful about the words he chooses. Watching him speak without his security blanket teleprompter is painful. He's almost as bad as his press secy., Robert Gibbs...uh...uh...uh....uh...bla bla bla bla....uh...uh...uh...uh...blah blah blah blah blah...uh...uh...uh...

This time the words spewed out of his mouth like a bad case of diarrhea. What he is saying he's sorry for is not taking time to measure his words so that the full scope of his hatefulness would not have been so apparent.

He also called the police officer personally and spoke with him. How do you know he didn't apologize during the course of that conversation? It seems to me that you are doing exactly what you accuse him of doing: making a judgment without having all the facts.

It's all just politics. Those who think he should apologize are supposed to see his gesture as an apology.

I believe he cannot just say "I'm sorry" because
    a. people would want to know which part exactly he was sorry about.
    b. people would expect "I'm sorry" throughout his term in office.

This diffused bunch of words is just a way of avoiding expectations and a way to avoid people getting a video clip of an apology and playing it everytime they think he should say it again.

I always just said "I screwed up. I'm sorry." Worked for me.

Of course, he called the police officer.......after the fact.....after his true colors were exposed. It's called "putting out the fire", "crisis management"., "trying to put the cat back into the bag." I have the facts. I was there when he spewed. I heard it with my own two ears via TV. I'm all for letting this just go away, but, now I know something about the man that I have suspected all along. He is no different from any other politician. He hides what he doesn't want the public to see.

Perhaps the teleprompter needs to be re-calibrated.

At any rate, after a beer or two (and maybe some cigarettes) -- they'll get over it.

I think Oompa has a valid point here. The words he needed to calibrate differently were made in public.
He can skirt around "I'm sorry" in public and say whatever he says in private, but then the words remain.

It is all just slow news summer issues, but really- couldn't he just say "I spoke from my feelings without knowing all the facts. I called and apologized."

OMG, leavingwt! A picture of Obama holding a beer! I can't wait for self-righteous Conservatives to run with this. He's setting a bad example for our children.

I think the point is that the person offended was the police officer, and he is the one owed an apology, not oompa, journey-on, or anyone else.

I don't know one single conservative that doesn't drink beer. I do, however, know a couple of self-righteous tofu eating liberals (whom I adore, BTW) that would give him a lecture about it.
