If the WBT$ goes, does "Jehovah" cease to exist?

This is prompted by a statement made on another thread, that God would still exist even if the Borg didn't.

It seems to me that the God of the Watchtower only exists within their organization,so their "Jehovah" goes down with them, and I say the sooner the better.

My reason for mentioning this is because many times when I was an active Witless I had to say to other Dubs "I do not worship the same God as you" when they had come out with total BS about Armageddon etc. which was not supported by scripture.

Eventually it dawned on my poor slow brain that indeed,I did not worship the god of the WT,so I left.

I think though it is usefull to keep this thought in mind when talking to Dubs, and use expressions like "YOUR God does this,or will do ,that..."

they will then perhaps feel the isolation from the true God which is their existence.

No, because "Jehovah" has been used by many religions over the years; it was not invented by the WTS.

I was taught that JWs were the only religion in the world that knew God's name was Jehovah. As a kid, I thought "oh, how special we are." Later, after fading, I discovered that lots of religions use the name Jehovah when referring to God, just not as much. We weren't so special after all. I thought the tetragrammaton (YHVH) was some secret only JWs were in on.

I don't use the name when talking with my JW family. I say "our creator" or simply "God". They're going to freak when I finally decide to start saying The Eternal One.

They'll freak even more if you start using the name "Jesus"

    Dear Blondie,

I was not referring to the name Jehovah, but to the WT God who they somewhat blasphemously give the name Jehovah, (sad anglisization of the tetragrammaton that it is)

The god of the WT sacrifices childrens, and adults, lives with his blood policy, he is supposedly going to destroy 7 billion or more people in his battle of Armageddon,he splits families with his shunning policy etc. etc this is the God who dies with the WTB$,not YHWH, the god of the Bible.

This is the God ,the WT God, that goes down with them, the God of truth and justice and love, the God of the Bible, is eternal.

But He is so so different than the god of the WT, that we need to show them that they are on their own with their God.

wobble, there are several other religious groups that have a similar view of the "Jehovah" of the OT. The disapperance of the WTS won't end those groups.

    Maybe so.

Isn't there a scientific theory that in order for the universe to exist, there must be someone to observe it? Take away the observers, and the universe ceases to exist.

Maybe if you take away Jehovah's Witnesses, Jehovah would cease to exist.

They stopped serving food at conventions, but Shasta Cola survived. Maybe Jehovah will make it, too.

The name Jehová is still part of the old Protestant bibles (even in recently-revised editions, such as the Reina-Valera 1995) used by a host of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Evangelicals... (which makes it a bit less of a subcultural -- or 'cult' -- identity marker in those languages).

But of course if we take an exclusive definition (this 'Jehovah') we can as well say that many "Gods" (versions of "God") have vanished in the history of monotheism. Is the current JW understanding of "Jehovah" still the same as Russell's or even Rutherford's?

I believe the "god" of the Watchtower would indeed cease to exist.
