I don't believe in it, but it's a very romantic idea that I find charming as all get out.

It is perhaps a wishful thinking kind of thing.

Perhaps a few lucky people are able to make it into a self-fulfilling prophesy.

    Maybe I should try that.

tthew 22: 23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24 "Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?"

29 Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, 32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob' [a] ? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching. NIV

As was His audience of years ago, I am also astonished.

    Perhaps.....

I mean if you live your life in say rural isolation and you limited to local townsfolk only.....yes! (I can think of several couples!)

However in my personal experience it is about compatibility and stage of life that determines whom you might perceive as your 'soulmate'. From there that perception can continue as long as the other person continues to meet your personal ideological requirements of being a 'soulmate'.

Edited to add...... Yes I believe in the idea of one soulmate in your life..... well at least one at a time that is!

In order to really believe this "one soulmate" idea, I would have to believe in some force that makes two people into the ideal bond and I would have to believe that such a force is involved in bringing them together. It's doing a lousy job, divorce is rampant.

Could a person become a soulmate? Yes, two people can either hit it off because they are perfect for each other or they can learn to be perfect for each other. That is not limited to "one soulmate" per person then. Someone else could also fill the roll.

Also, do the ones who believe in a soulmate believe they have to be hetero? or sexually interested in each other? Could they be just soulmates because of their hobbies and interests and politics and such, but never lay down together? Two hetero males or females? One gay and one straight?

    Yes! A resounding Yes!

The guy I mentioned in my first post on this thread and I were never sexually intimate.

Yet, we have never forgotten the closeness we shared.

For instance, sitting on a creek bank, sharing an ice cream cone was enough for us.

Just being in each other's presence was what mattered.

I was going to comment along the lines of OTWO.

In no way do I thing there is a giant "Soulmates" book that some divine character has written the names of people who are to be matched up.

I believe sometimes something extraordinary happens between two people, regardless of the sex. It's like having another one of you. Thre are differences as we all are unique, but on some level there is a special connection and it is almost magic.

I think it is more of a romantic idea, soulmates... not that it doesn't happen. But I believe with all my heart that one should not look for one. Instead one should be open to relationships, love them wisely and deeply, and let nature take it's course.

In a world of 7 billion people - I kinda imagine that there might be more than one person that would be 'perfect' for any other person.

That said - some find a pretty good mate and it sticks. My wife and I have been faithful and true blue for 35 years now. No secrets. No lies. But if something should happen to either of us, I am relatively sure the other could find another if they so desired, and that that second love could be wonderful. I have seen it happen many times among others.

Still - the idea of a soulmate is enticing on some levels isn't it?
