Here's an argument that ought to stump any JWs who come to your door

  Isn't the "blood components are still blood, thus a JW wouldn't accept them" essentially the same argument that JWs reject when discussing the trinity?

  I.e., "The Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and yet there are not 3 Gods but only 1 God"...isn't that pretty much the same as "Red blood cells are blood, white blood cells are blood, platelets are blood, plasma is blood, yet there is just one 'life-giving substance' named blood"?

  If a JW asks you "If Jesus was God, who was he praying to?", couldn't you counter with "If plasma is blood, why can't you accept platelets?"

  Make sense? Reasonable?

  Or is my brain starting its weekend early?

  it makes sense but... I think it will be too deep for many JW's. first the smoke will start coming out of their ears and then their head will explode.

  lol it doesn't mention that their only has to be one blood in the bible like God is one and in fact when it comes to fractions it is a concience matter because they cannot in all conscience say it is still blood and so leave it to the individual.

  Ah yes, the old "the word trinity doesn't even appear in the Bible" argument.

  I agree, "one blood" is an awkward phrasing, but I'm not sure how else to put it.

  not quite sure on this one...I will have to think it thru. I would add that the WT did not come to allowing fractions due to conscience. It is due to pressure to get rid of the ridiculous and unscriptural ban on blood. Bt if they did this immediately there could be extensive backlash. So they will do it very slowly...and attempt to make it look as though it has always been up to the individual.

  Also jw can reason that the blood fractions are not the same as the whole blood or its main components such as plasma.

  For example, the taking of plasma is wrong according to the WTS. But the majority of plasma is made up of water. Is water wrong for a jw to take in? Of course not. Even though water makes up the major amount of plasma, water still is not plasma nor is plasma the same as water.

  straightshooter, the complete disconnect of logic though is that a witness CAN take albumin, leukocytes, and all the other proteins that make up plasma. There is NO component of plasma that a dub can not take. But they can not take plasma.

  Actually, what you should do is just ask

  "How do you make biblical distinctions as to what are acceptable and unaccceptable blood fractions without a biblical basis for such distinctions?"

  yes GB, and especially ask why the Wt allows its members to make use of blood not poured out in doing this...thus condoning it.
