2 things hit me right away:
Beth-el, meaning house of God, includes the earlier name of God that gradually became replaced by Yahweh. El was the chief in the pantheon of gods worshipped by the Canaanites, including the early Hebrews. Why doesn't the WT discuss this I wonder? The same sky riding qualities of El and later Baal are ascribed to Yahweh in psalms that apparently carried through to later days, when YHWH had replaced El as the way the israelites addressed God.
The second thing that hit me is that they say that God did not really inhabit the temple or the tabernacle, but that is likely what the israelites thought, that El really did inhabit the temple. Why else was it sacred, or set apart? It is a slippery slope to project today's views of God onto the ancient israelites; early on they were not monotheistic. That was retrojected onto them by the writers of the bible in the 700 to 400 BCE centuries.
Great job Blondie!
