Why can't Americans wear our "native dress"?
We invented the drab suit. That is our native dress. (of course, Don Draper makes it look cool)
I wonder if we could have gotten away with dressing up as Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett...

Or Pastor Russell.

Hah hah...Jeff,
That means all the JW men would have to grow beards for the convention (women would still have to shave)
The first video definitely make JWs look crazy- I had to laugh! And sorry, I could only make it through about half of the last one. That horrible music
I wonder who the last people in the video are, and how do they rate? They were wearing casual clothes.
Gee, I hope all the International Delegates to San Diego got a city tour that included a visit to Beth Sarim, home of Joe Rutherford and his naughty-nurse.
Obviously, the witlesses succeeded in brainwashing the media to present the "favorable" side of the cancer. Telling us that the end really is coming quickly (since 1874, though they will not mention 1874). Like that they "improve" life for members (by cutting off anything and everything that resembles fun). They are told to mention that the end is near, and that you have to go to their sessions to find out what you must do in order to survive--the witlesses use force and threats of force to get the media to present this side only.
Suppose the media mentioned that the First Dark Ages were actually much worse than even today--swine flu pales next to the Plague, wars were ongoing throughout the whole First Dark Ages, crime was expected then (worse than even the worst city areas today), and people were owned by Lords. The life expectancy of the people was in their 20s; even the Lords could not reasonably expect to live much past 40 or 50 before getting an infection or getting killed in a war or crime. If the media were to mention that, the Washtowel Babble and Crap Slaveholdery would sue them for libel and for misrepresenting the story. And, since the journalists are by and large too lazy to cross-reference the material before presenting it, they are not going to see anything wrong with it.
And, once the media presents it as the truth (having no opposing viewpoints because they didn't bother cross-referencing anything), the people are going to see it as the truth. Especially if it winds up on mainstream news reports like this. Some will go because they actually believe that, if the news reports the end of the system, it has to be true and will find out what they need to do to survive. Others will be curious enough to go (but not enough to cross-reference the religion). And both groups will find themselves getting involved with a "study" that is going to lead them into the real snare--the witlesses themselves.
Much could be avoided if people were not too damn lazy to cross-reference things. Back in 1987 (when they were still baptizing people), lack of access to outside sources was a valid excuse. Today, when so many (and especially the journalists) can get millions of cross-references with a click of the mouse, that is no longer an excuse except for those who cannot afford Internet access. I would at least expect the journalists to cross-reference things instead of just reporting what they are told to as if it were infallible--and the government to stand up for the truth and throw out any suits for reporting the real truth and charging the Washtowel for frivolous suits (that is, unless the government thinks the witlesses are going to protect the Establishment, which is wrong because the witlesses want to control it instead).
I watched the first 3... couldn't stomach more than 10 seconds of that last one. I can't believe I used to feel proud everytime an assembly or convention was mentioned in the news. Brilliant job on reporting for the two news videos.
The smiles on the faces of the bottom video remind me of the Blackhole Sun video. I won't sicken myself further by watching them.
Wow... that first one made them look like quacks....But seriously, they act like now is sooo terrible (and yeah bad freaking things happen and will always happen but..) Don't they understand bad things have been happening since humans have been on this planet and thanks to globalization now we KNOW about all the bad natural disasters and wars that happen??!!? And all the crimes and terrible other crap that people do to each other?---But has seriously been going on since time began..... Cripes, bad things... WORSE things have happened on this planet before these supposed "end of days"!! Jeeeeeez spanish inquisition, HELLO! the "discovery" of the americas and the obliteration of countless aboriginal denizens?!?! The sectioning off of Africa for European nations coffers and the countless people who got butchered then? What about all those nasty wars that took place in bible times that jehobah supposedly was behind?!?! Oh wait wait... all these bad things happened because its a setup for Arrrrrrmagedon and the end of days..........right..........And I'm seriously still miffed about selling the daughters into slavery business.....GRRRRR...... IF THEY BELIEVED IN EDUCATION MAYBE THEY WOULD KNOW THIS?!?! Sorry sorry, tangent........ :) Those elders talking reminded me of my dad and set me off!
The view one seriously cracked me up tho, I didn't know that the one lady was a former jw.
Anyway thanks for those videos! They were amusing/thoughtprovoking/engraging/hilarious! I couldn't make it through the last one, it set me through a giggle fit/ "OMG I USED TO BE ONE"--fit
