Could it be that the proximity of 2014 is at the heart of it?
I have no contact with Jw's - except on this board - but my wife does at times with her family. Imminent is the cry of the sky for the Jw's it seems.
I recall the years leading up to 1975 with a lot of that sort of thing. THen it was 'Jehovah's day is close at hand' if I recall. Same song, new verse. The WTS may have more to lose with 2014. The lemmings may begin to jump after that.
Thoughts?

JEFF- All it is in my opinion is " same crap , different year " . The WT society is getting desperate to exert more control on the rank and file because some are already jumping ship. So they put out District Conventions like this years with titles like " Keep on the Watch ". It's all part of the mind control game they play to keep these people living in fear of the alleged Big " A " . It's just a tactic they keep using to control them. In my opinion
This is the SAME old stuff. Happens EVERY year. Read ANY book they've EVER printed and you'll see the same message.
"Imminent" is the perfect term for the WB&TS. It provides to a sense of urgency but doesn't cite a certain date.
I think Venus Williams losing at the US Open is imminent, as of 10:03PM EDT.

My mom said that at the last dc they really stressed how close "the end" is. I laughed and told her that they've been saying that for years. "Remember Mom? I wasn't supposed to graduate high school!"
OTOH Venus is known to exaggerate injuries to gain an advantage over an opponent, so the "signs" may have been misleading.
Ha! I just opened this thread because I saw that Leolaia was the last one to post and I wanted to see what deep insight or research she had for this topic.
They only use it because they stumbled across it in a thesaurus.
One likely word they will unfortunately never learn is "apology".
