We really didn't plan it at all, just couldn't stand it one more minute. I couldn't have listened to all the sickening sweet "Oh we missed you Thursday". We just riped it off like an old band aid. Yes there were many phone calls (leave the machine on). There were visits (keep the drapes shut), you can predict when they will come. After about 6 months it all stopped, not even an invitation to the memorial. It might not work for everyone and they may push it one day when some CO comes around shedding new light on the topic. It is awkward when we see JW at the mall or a restaurant but it would have been anyway. NMKA

If you suddenly or accidently see the Witnesses, they start getting all fuzzy thinking you might come back. Who wants to go back to a cult (knowingly)?

Walk away discreetly without making an big fanfare, a simple I don't believe it any more to continue , politely said is all you really need to say.
It might be a good idea to mention you've done some back ground research on the organization that may have influenced this change.
Saying things like that puts up alarm bells to the listener that might introduce the possibility doing a bit of research themselves with a bit of inquisitiveness.
