I love Cabernet Sauvinuan (I know that isn't spelled right) and Merlot.
They both have a rich full flavor!!
Learned to drink dry wines when I was in Europe!

I prefer white wines such as Chardonnay, also very partial to New Zealand brews. Well done you Kiwi's.

Ozzie will like this...I have recently been buying a "Black Opal" labelled Merlot from Australia. It went rather well with wild pheasant (from North Dakota and shot by my FIL) this Christmas eve.
I enjoy a wide variety of wines and do tend to buy Californian or Australian and I'm not of the biased opinion that old-world wines are always the best. Of course, I am also swayed in my buying habits by the specials at my local liquor store.

Half the fun in drinking red wine is it's unpredictablity, the way vintages change from year to year as they age in the bottle or the way local weather alters the taste of wine from a particular region from year to year.
This unpredictablity makes it difficult to choose one particular brand year after year or even one particular region.
I personally prefer heavier full-bodied red wines, particularly cabernet sauvignon. I prefer the spicier flavours, like black pepper to the fruitier ones. Aging in oak barrels adds nice flavour as well.

Have any of you had the pleasure of trying the Stag's Leap Cab? It is wonderful stuff.
By the way, our pal Kent S REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to wine, especially French and German wines.
