inbetween, I do also remember another backroom session at the hall where the elders spent several minutes discussing my hair growing long in the back. Again, i was asked: "Could you imagine Jesus with one of those things?" LOL

Are they lightning up on these issues?

isaasaustin: I guess a lot depends on the congegation, the make up of it, and mostly the elders...here we are pretty liberal, elders concentrate on more important things (according to the standard of the WTS) but at least not so much additional personal opinion garbage...

We had several shepherding visits, because my marriage wasn't the standard "happy family" you always see in WT. Most of them went by the old pattern of "pray more, read Bible and literature more, go in FS more, go to every meetings". Not long ago our cong got a nice elder, who was by accident my teacher in high school, he is a really smart guy, I still have lots of respect for him. He was the first to break the old pattern, and I actually heard some really interresting stuff from him - none from the WT literature though. He is the kind I can imagine in Brooklyn writing for the magazines

isaasaustin: erm... just about every christian organization except WT is imagining Jesus with long hair

Did God change his mind on goatees, or did the man-made laws of the GB relax due to other influences?

Wasnt ever to do with God.....as ive said before yes some will claim to be Jw and will do wrong, others will make mistakes....but these petty things shouldnt ever push us away from Jehovahs love, which is what satan wants and is succeeding sadly.

Some congregations wont let you give public talks in a coloured shirt, these are things that satan will use and yes imperfect men either unknowingly or deliberately are doing things that arent needed or that Jehovah wouldnt actually be bothered about (ie the shirt or goatie) BUT would that really stumble someone who loved Jah? I dont go to the meetings for the men there,or dress to please them etc...i was baptised for Jah and i do things to please him, thats why silly mistakes dont bother me in the slightest because im staying focused....satan can fight all he wants but i have more important things to be dealing with then worrying if a brother can wear a certain shirt or grown a goatie.

The Gb change with time within reason, always staying with morals and principles.

Except, those 'petty rules', or 'mistakes' are made by Jehovah's supposed channel of communication of truth. If a member declines to follow this "channel" to go with what his conscience tells him is correct, he will face sanction, depending on the matter- up to disfellowshipping from the org....a possible family ripped apart. All because of 'mistakes' by men claiming to be God's channel.

these petty mistakes are worthy of Df...and yes petty shirt colours etc because we are imperfect...or because they are too proud...who knows..there are many reasons...but why please why leave Jehovahs loving home???

Because the Kingdom Hall is not Jehovahs home. The Governing Body are not Jehovah's elect.

And so interesting how those 'petty mistakes' by those clowns in Brooklyn become major sins if a member does not comply.

angel eyes: this is my answer to your question: Acts 15:28,29 : "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements...". Does the GB follow this scriptural advice?
