I'm looking forward to the new Ken Burns film, which will begin airing this weekend.

The National Parks: America's Best Idea

The National Parks: America's Best Idea is a six-episode series directed by Ken Burns and written and co-produced by Dayton Duncan. Filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature's most spectacular locales – from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska - The National Parks: America's Best Idea is nonetheless a story of people: people from every conceivable background – rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy.

Which National Parks are your favorites? I really liked Yosemite.

I can't say I've been to many Natl Parks, but Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Glacier come to mind. Those three are so different from one another that they hardly compare. One thing I'm confident about is that after watching this latest Burns work I'll be anxious to do some traveling.

LEAVING WT- In my 20's I hiked and backpacked in Kings Canyon National Park in the southern Sierra . So much remote country with difficult access back there- but once you get up in the high country meadows, lakes, and streams it is one of the prettiest areas I've ever hiked in. Beautiful lush meadow grass green year round up to your knees , great fishing , and a photographers paradise ! Would like to go there agin someday- but I live in Northern Californianow- so I;m exploring more of the North state Sierra mountains . Plus Bigfoot lives up here ! So I'm busy checking that out as well

FROZEN ONE -- I would really like to visit Yellowstone. My wife's uncle recommends it, too.

FLIPPER -- That sounds cool. You live in a beautiful part of the country. I've been to San Francisco, but I didn't make it north to see the Redwoods.

I loved Canyonlands and Arches NP in Utah.

Arches is amazing. I felt a divine presence there when I went in 2002. Of course, Everglades NP is home for me. I love this place. One day I will canoe the wilderness waterway. 7-9 days of varied habitat, some fresh, some brackish, some salt. From sawgrass to mangrove. Alligators. Saltwater crocs. Manatees. Dolphins. Ever been surprised by a manatee surfacing right next to your canoe? I have. And more different kinds of fish and birds than you can shake a stick at. Snook, redfish, bass, tarpon. Egret, spoonbill, ibis, heron. Ever hooked a tarpon from a canoe and hoped the big fish wouldn't provoke a capsize? And then theres amazing campsights on floating chickee huts, haunted ex- plantations like The Watson Place, beach sites, and tough stretches like Lostman's Bay and The Nightmare.

    Burns,

Those gators terrify me. I guess I need to get my feet wet.

They're not so bad. But when they're longer than your canoe, that's big. But we're a more dangerous animal by far.

BurnTheShip: I would love to go to everglades. Love reptiles. Gaters are awsome, I almost got one at one time in my younger years. Would love to check out that part of the country as I was only 10 when I drove through there.

On a side note, if anyone goes through northern Arizona/Utah border a tine hole in a ground to check out is Antelope Canyon (actually two upper and lower) they are spectacular!!! One can spend hours shooting them and get totally different results as light changes in them creating different light and color. Not a NP but I thought it was worth mentioning.
