:I don't care for lions or picnics, so I felt lost at times.

Besides that, the lions will eat up all the picnic food. Who's going to mess with a hungry lion, even a tame one? I assume we humans will be eating straw at all our picnics, not to mention at our barbeques. Hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs and shish-ke-bobs are definitely out of the question.

Barbequed straw! Yummy! Now THAT is what I call "quality" of life, Watchtower style!

    Farkel,

The Master didn't say he came to give us life in abundance when we get into the New World (that's a Watchtower doctrine), he said he came (then) to give us life in abundance--period (in the here and now and eternally).

With or without the straw? I HATE eating straw! I'll bet money that lions hate it, too.

I am sure we can stretch the Movies and the WTB$ analogy even further, Godfather movies anyone ?

Farkel, you use the "straw" so that you can suck up all the good tasty stuff, ya know? (Smiling at you.)

So, can the Maria class turn the WTBS into happy singers? I'm not going to hold my breath watiting for that one.

Regarding picnics etc: As Robert Heinlein said "the lamb may lie down with the lion, but the lion will sleep better."

    Great post Fark-meister!

I think your analogy is spot-on for the first part of the movie. But then the Captain allows his humanity to be reached and changes, somewhat, for the better. That's where the WT comparison stops working, IMO.

    Thanks for the pick-me-up.

If you liked the movie, Farkel, you might like to read Maria von Trapp's autobiography (can't remember the title), if it's still in print.

As free-spirited as she was in Austria, her sense of adventure did not fail her when the family escaped to the U.S. The account of the family's lives in Vermont is funny and poignant.

    Good read.

Ah yes, the liberal, progressive, and as is always the case in the end, more pragmatic Maria vs. the conservative Von Trapp.
