Did your big toe get baptized? Did they re-dunk you?

  I had a leg come up during the first attempt, and they had to redo my baptism. I cannot see what the whole point was, aside to waste more of my time just because a leg came up (it is supposed to be a symbol anyways, and I am sure my leg was submerged at one point and came up less than a second later).

  Yes, they were successful the second time. I was totally submerged long enough to be technically valid. Yet, in spite of their superstition of a person that was not fully submerged going apostate, that didn't stop me from turning apostate (perhaps, if they would have made sure I was immersed with the opposite sex with as much insistence as they were on my being immersed in that pool, that might have worked).

  I am also among the double-dipped. A foot came up during the first attempt and I had to be submerged again. Such silliness! I wonder where in the Bible they look to justify such nitpicking about how a person is baptized. I have heard stories about people being baptized in bathtubs during times of banning and persecution. Imagine trying to get a large person fully and completely submerged in a bathtub!

  I know two people who were double dipped. One was already embarrassed enough being wet in front of hundreds of people, let alone having to re-dunked. I remember a brother saying to me after I got baptised 'do you feel any different?'. I was bewildered. 'Different?'....what did he mean? I mumbled something like 'Um yes, I do' because I felt it was the answer he was looking for (even though I felt NO different to pre-dunking). His face lit up and he said I'd received holy spirit and that when he'd been baptised he felt full of spirit too....and everything looked different and better.

  I smiled politely, but then felt bad because I'd not felt that. I was a very naive 16yr old, who now thought her baptism wasn't legit and that Jehovah didn't want me because I didn't feel the holy spirit. Bah!

  I didn't realize how frequently "double dipping" occured.

  I remember the first (or second?) time I did dunking duty they wanted the "watcher" to be right at the dunkees feet ready to put an arm down to prevent any rebel toes or knees from popping up. Then they stopped giving us those instructions.

  Then it dawned on me. I'll bet some people were inadvertently (I hope) getting an unexpected underwater grope from the watcher and so they decided not to have the watcher take such an active role. All speculation on my part.

  I was baptised by a chelsea supporter (best football team ever!!) Now that proved Jah has taste too :))

  So I guess part of England's pre-dunker screening process includes making sure their not a Man U fan?

  I'm more of a Barcelona man myself.

  Over here, the brother gets in the water with the one getting baptised. Is that done where you are? Or do they dunk from the pool edge?

  Somehow, I got the impression, that when you were baptized, you would know, that when coming out of the water, if you were chosen as the annointed.

  Like JC seeing the spirit in the form of a Dove? Who knows? Didn't happen. I was too programed to being of the earthly second class.

  Anyone get gifts? I did. A very nice Young's Concordance from my teacher with a good note to never quit searching as for buried treasure. Not really knowing at the time, once you are a JW, you are not permitted to search anymore.
