    Sylvia,

We use the correct side of the road (that is the left) because it allows you to see the sword arm of a horse rider coming toward you and puts your sword arm between you and someone coming in the opposite direction.

How is that not a useful tradition?

Bit off topic but running with Caedes here:

The Chamber of the British House of Commons is a rectangular room with the Speaker's Chair at one end. Along one side, to the Speaker's right are the Government Benches and opposite them on the Speaker's left are the opposition benches.

In front of each set of benches a red line is drawn on the floor, and members are not permitted to cross the red line on their side.

The red lines are two sword lengths apart, preventing physical, personal attacks from one side on the other.

Now that is the correct way to set up a House!

And what's with those phony, pretentious accents?

    Agreed, Besty.

With all the animosity in the US Congress, perhaps something similar should be implemented.

    Now, now, Keyser.

Many find my estranged husband's accent delightful.

He's from Jamaica, and can turn on the charm when he's of a mind to do so.

    Sorry, snowbird.

I'm of strong British ancestry. I will defend anything British. Except their food. Their food is fair game!

    LOL.

    That will suffice.

    Thanks.

When i used to work at the Toyota plant we used American terms for the cars...hood, tail, sedan, etc. It was confusing to start with, but after a while i began to use those terms in everday language. Even though i haven't worked there a number of years, i still call the bonnet a hood lol
