Yep, they're butt ugly all right. I think it was the PO's wife who decorated the one I went to... brown carpet, brown chairs with apricot walls and curtains... I've seen hospital rooms that look much more visually appeasing than your average kingdom hall.
Is it me or are kingdome halls butt ugly?

Whats those squiggily lines upbove the sign? It looks like the middle one says, "kid oid" and then has brackets that resemble a bed. Maybe they molest kids. No wonder there's no windows!!!!

No windows? Do you know how many people I ran into in service that asked that question?
What are you trying to hide? Little did I know we were hiding stuff.

It was always the PO's wife who decorated the KH like her house, down to the doilies in the bathroom.

The Stanly Theatre is in Jersey City, NJ. Wikipedia says, "It was bought by Jehovah's Witnesses in 1983 for $800,000 dollars, seven years later they bought the surrounding buildings also". Some say it was bought for $18 Million. I'll have to look into it. Just wondering about PALMTREES thoughts, I know she loves NYC but it has nothing to do with the Stanley Theater.

They forgot to put a door in this one. And a window would be nice.
Almost every one I've seen has no windows. That serves several practical purposes. First, windows aren't cheap, take more time and skill to install properly, and even good ones leak more heat than an insulated wall. So leaving out the windows reduces both construction cost and quick-build time, and saves on the heating and air conditioning bills.
Second, if there were windows the bored kids would be able to stare through them and wonder why they're inside on such a nice sunny day. Without windows, they have nothing better to do than listen to the speaker.
Third, vandals can't break windows that aren't there.
Yes, windowless Kingdom Halls are butt-ugly, but it's understandable why they build them that way.

I will mention the grass that is always cut very short. They cut the lawns about 2 cm tall (not 3"), which always leads to drying up during the first dry spell. I like seeing all those beautiful weeds showing up to ruin the lawn after it all goes brown, and seeing all those dandelions getting a nice head start on the grass in spring (nothing like seeing their lawns ruined by yellow dandelions and bare spots). And I have seen them literally scalp the dirt--hopefully ruining the lawn mower.
Additionally, I have seen them have flowers that looked pathetic. Invariably, they put in begonias that have three or four blooms on them, and are struggling to survive. Never do they take care of them, and never do they become healthy (even during the summer months). The back lawn, which is supposed to be a picture of paradise, is more like a jungle than a flower patch (not to mention a prime place for bees to make their nests). They have evergreen trees that are half dead, and they do nothing about it. Even the front flower patch looks half dead, and half like a deserted jungle. I am just waiting for a nice big bees nest to set up there.
Inside, it is sterile. They have that fake-paradise "artwork(??)" and sterile color combinations inside, too. They do have windows, but the blinds are closed more often than not (and an air conditioning system that is one of the most inefficient systems on the planet, ever). However, it lacks the kind of deterioration that I have seen right around the building exterior--they obviously do not know how to plant a flower garden that appeals to people more than it does to bees. Plus, it is conducive to rotting exteriors (often behind the fake vinyl siding).
