C'mon, all of you Britons, how were those countries known as :
Zambia - Northern Rhodesia
Lesotho - Basutoland
Malawi - Nyasaland
and cherry on the cake : République Centrafricaine ? - French Equatorial Africa
Do I get to keep the cherry?

I'd rather learn about Antarctica. Africa is nasty.

Best learn all you can about it before global warming takes care of its whiteness.

Snowbird,
Hardly anyone remembers, even in France, that République centrafricaine was, under french rule, Oubangui Chari. It was part of a regional administrative structure called Afrique équatoriale française, comprising Gabon, French Congo (Brazzaville), Oubangui Chari and Chad, which we'll agree is hardly equatorial. On the other side was Afrique occidentale française with Côte d'Ivoire, haute Volta, Mali (called French Sudan at the time), and a few others.
The cherry is for you, together with the cake.

Some of the things that I know about Africa is that, according to Sarah Palin, it's a country, not a continent.
And it's a great song by Toto.

i will admit i did not know the answer to
most of the name changes but i DO point out
to everyone who tosses out "africa" like it is some
monolithic entity that the continent has over 60
discreet territories more muslims than christians,
thousands of distinct languages, including those
that are WHISTLED to cover long distances!!!!
