When you have elders have to explain why a beloved elder was no longer an elder, while the @$$hole elder stuck around, or go to a brother reaching out and has averaged 10 hours a month for a year and explain that you need to see it a bit longer, while another idiot is appointed, etc, it can get to you.

The evidence was always there. It shows how honest a JW is if they can at least admit to themselves that it goes on.

We had one elder who originally was from Italy. He used to be "feeling good" quite often at the regular meetings as well as elder's! It made for some theatrical moments like him asking an elder for "permission" for something, falling down on his knees, and entreating the older elder. This display was pretty bad but I knew he was drinking that afternoon and booze played havoc with his head (plus being an emotional Italian didn't hurt).

If you are not an elder, then it is easy to continue the naive belief that the H/S runs the Society...you never get to know any better and the elders keep repeating that to you.

All Elders Meetings are democratic. A show of hands decides what will happen. That is political.

Any time in the B of E shows you that human nature prevails. Strong personalities get their way and the satellite elders follow them. Certain ones always follow certain elders. Family ties and nepotism are very common.

I left at the same time as the most blatant piece of back stabbing took place in my last congo. My absence made it possible and they promptly took advantage of that

I agree completely with undercover. The more ass kissing and favors done for those in power the faster you moved up.

Whenever you get a group of people organized for anything, politics rears its ugly head. Yes, minimus, even among the Bible Students there is politics.
