I keep playing with the balance knob on my stereo to hear the different channels and really hear the details......great fun
I was talking to this dude we had in at the studio recently to recreate three Led Zeppelin songs.
He was telling me he was in a studio one day and the engineer had some Beatles multitracks loaded and the dude couldn't believe it.
Apparently, they are floating around the internet as things do these days
I just had a google and indeed they are.
As a side note, I went and mastered quite a lot of records at Abbey Road. The recording studios aren't cheap but the mastering studios are fairly reasonable compared with some others in London such as Metropolis. I used to cut vinyl masters there but also CD.
The engineer I used worked previously at Pete Townsend's studio in Richmond. We got on well and he always had plenty of stories to tell after the session One day when we were done he promptly told me he would give me a guided tour which was nice. I got to see all three recording studios and the new surround room which is upstairs etc.
He left one day to join the police force so it was never the same after that!
The strange thing is the place looks like a house from the front, which indeed it is. However, the mastering room I used to use was right at the back and the place is deceptively huge. You can see from the overhead shot on google map Abbey Road Studios‎ Compare with the "street view" and you will see what I mean.
Well, enough "name dropping" for one day!
All the best,
Stephen
