Why Can't We Accept The Jehovah's Witness Religion For Its Good & Bad?

I agree with Finally Free and PSacramento in that I have no problem accepting them even though I do not agree with their religion, the problem is they will not give me the same courtesy. If you are going to tell me that my beliefs are all wrong, then you better make sure you are right. This claim that they have the truth and that no other religion who calls themselves Christian has it is perhaps the boldest claim I have ever encountered. If they have the truth, why the need to keep changing their teachings?

This nonsense about "new light" is exactly that, nonsense. How many people get hurt trying to follow an 'old truth' before the Watchtower finally corrects it under the guise of 'new light?' I've been reading Ray Franz's book, CoC, I was amazed at how the governing body ruled on one case where a man cheated on his wife by having anal sex with another woman. Because it wasn't 'genital copulation' the governing body ruled that she could not seek a divorce on scriptural grounds (apparently the GB took fornication to mean only genital copulation). As he pointed out, this could potentially open the door for a married person to commit homosexuality and beastiality without consequence so long as it was done anally. They mistranslated the original greek and used fornication instead of what the greek intended more broadly as sexual immorality. The WT eventually corrected this policy but never admitted to being wrong about it. The poor hapless witnesses who are only trying to serve God the best way they know how are being hurt because they turn to the GB for guidance.

Apparently, the WT has the Fonzie Syndrome or suffers the Fonzie Factor whichever you prefer (for those of you under say 35, you may not get this reference so just read the links).

But you know what really gets me? They can so easily claim that others are lost and definitely know for sure that those outside the JW religion will not inherit everlasting life but they don't even know for sure if they will inherit everlasting life themselves.

If I go into regular church, and believe 80% of what they say, that could well be good enough for the church. People can and do join churches solely so they can get the social benefits, and to contribute to the community, even if they don't believe in what the church teaches. While the church will continue attempting to teach about Original Sin, people can join without believing it and contribute to society through that church--and the church will not feel threatened.

With the witlesses, you believe only 80% of what they teach, you are going to be mercilessly hounded. You join to give to the community, you will find yourself preaching a message you probably don't even believe all the way. And, if you do so much, they are always going to want even more--however, there is no doing anything that actually serves the community. Plus, there is nothing you can gain from the cancer.

Because it takes our family away. I have catholic friends who have had similar experiences as far as shunning, etc. They really hate the part of the religion that makes their family like that.

Jws play hardball, we take the same stand.

Other christian faiths don't control the members, don't tell them that they HAVE to associate with only that type of christian, don't add EXTRA burdon to their congregations. Typically don't SHUN their members if they choose to leave.

You dont learn much in other churches, but at least you get to feel like you are making a difference and helping people (and church being a fun and happy place kinda helps).... so even if you dont believe 100%- it doesnt matter because your still surrounded by people who love you anyways and unlike the JW's, most other 'christian' religions are more interesting in acts of charity not preaching- did I mention the music's better???

Because the WBTS sets themselves up as a "higher standard" than any other. They say they have the Truth. They say they are god's representation of earthly government. They say that ONLY through membership with their organization can you have a relationship with Jehovah. They say that it is only through association with them that anyone has the hope of everlasting life! Because they LIE!

But the wt has 2 sets of weights.... one when they judge all other religions..and one where they make excuses for their own organization which is every bit as guilty as other religions, but demands 100% loyalty from its members. They are no different, no better than the religions they condemn.
