Do other religions believe in life forever on earth?

    CHRISTADELPHIANS

After Jesus returns to Earth in the near future, the wicked will be destroyed and believers will reign with Christ for a

millennium. After that period, those selected for eternal life will live on Earth forever. Christadelphians do not believe

that the saved will spend eternity in heaven. They believe that the Kingdom of God will be located on the Earth, with

    Jerusalem as its capital.

The righteous will then return to a cleansed earth, and establish the New Jerusalem.

    BAHAI

The Bahai Faith believes both that Baha'u'llah is the return of Christ and initiator of the kingdom of God on earth.

Can you think of any others, such as the Bible Students?

    What do we believe?

There will be a thousand year period (a millennium) where mankind will be assisted and guided back to perfection like

the first human; father Adam. At the end of the thousand years, faithful mankind will become sons of God and will live

forever on earth (Revelation 20:4; Revelation 21:3, 4).

    START OF ARTICLE

Q1,2. What questions will be considered in this article?

    COMMENTS
Actually, what questions will not be considered?

    1. Millions of people today clearly understand the Scriptural basis for the hope of living forever in an earthly paradise.

(Rev. 7:9,17) At the beginning of human history, God revealed that man was made, not to live a few years and then die,

    but to live forever.--Gen. 1:26,28.

    COMMENTS
millions of people--what the WTS means is only the 7 million jws

Yet God changed to have people go to heaven--why was that necessary? Could they not have ruled on earth? Don't

they teach that some like Abraham, David, etc., are going to be ruling on earth after their resurrection? Why was

Christ's ransom and his kingship and priestly role enough? Was he deficient and needed 144,000 to "help" him?

    2. The lifting of mankind to the perfection that Adam lost was part of the hope of Israel. The Christian Greek Scriptures

explain by what means God will make possible everlasting life for mankind in Paradise on earth. So why did man's hope

have to be rediscovered? How was it brought to light and made know to millions?

    COMMENTS
Where does it say that Israel hoped for EL on earth? Does the CGS offer earthly or heavenly life? Why then does the

WTS say that the CGS was written for the anointed who go to heaven?

"Paradise on earth"--a phrase that never occurs in the Bible.

    A HOPE OBSCURED

Q3. Why is it not surprising that mankind's hope of everlasting life on earth was obscured?

Jesus foretold that false prophets would corrupt his teachings and that most people would be mislead. (Matt. 24:11)

The apostle Peter warned Christians: "There will also be false teachers among you." (2 Pet. 2:1) The apostle Paul

spoke of "a period of time when [people would] not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own

desires, they [would] accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled." (2 Tim. 4:3,4) Satan is involved in

misleading people and has used apostate Christianity to obscure the heart-warming truth about God's purpose for man

    and the earth.--Read 2 Corinthians 4:3.4.

    COMMENTS
What is does 2 Tim. 4:3,4 say without the brackets? Why necessary?

(2 Timothy 4:3-4) . . .For there will be a period of time when [they will] not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in

accord with their own desires, they [will] accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4 and they will

turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.

    apostate Christianity--everyone but jws

Q4. What hope for mankind have apostate religious leaders rejected?

The Scriptures explain that the Kingdom of God is a government in heaven that will crush and put an end to all

man-made rulerships. (Dan. 2:44) During Christ's rule of a thousand years, Satan will be confined to an abyss, the dead

will be resurrected, and mankind will be elevated to perfection on earth. (Rev. 20:1-3,6,12; 21:1-4) However, apostate

religious leaders of Christendom have embraced other ideas. For example third-century Church Father Origen of

Alexandria condemned believers in the earthly blessings of the Millennium. Catholic theologian Augustine of Hippo

(354-430 C.E.) "held to the conviction that there will be no millennium," says The Catholic Encyclopedia.*

*Augustine claimed that the Thousand Year Reign of God's Kingdom was not future but had already begun with the

    founding of the church.

    COMMENTS

The word "government" does not occur in the bible.

So Satan is alive but confined for 1,000 years more but all the babies of non-jws who died in Armageddon are dead

    forever!

What they don't mention is that the people who died during the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Armageddon will not

    be resurrected, including babies.

Does the WTS quote Origen of Alexandria in a positive way? Although branding them as apostate influences, the WTS

does selectively quote from him to support the WTS beliefs.

Origen, a third-century historian, wrote that “of all the holy people in the Scriptures, no one is recorded to have kept a

Q5,6. Why did Origen and Augustine oppose millennialism?

    5. Why did Origen and Augustine oppose millennialism? Origen was a pupil of Clement of Alexandria, who borrowed

the idea of an immortal soul from Greek tradition. Being strongly influenced by Plato's ideas about the soul, Origen

"built into Christian doctrine the whole cosmic drama of the soul, which he took from Plato," observes theologian

Werner Jaeger. Consequently, Origen shifted the earthly blessings of the Millennium to the spiritual realm.

    COMMENTS

So why quote some other man's words about what Origen said? Why not quote directly from Origen's own words?

Who is Werner Jaeger, and what source are his statements from?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werner_Jaeger

    6. Before converting to "Christianity" at the age of 33, Augustine had become a Neoplatonist--an adherent of a version

of Plato's philosophy developed by Plotinus in the third century. After Augustine's conversion, his thinking remained

Neoplatonic. "His mind was the crucible in which the religion of the New Testament was most completely fused with the

Platonic tradition of Greek philosophy," states the New Encyclopedia Britannica. Augustine explained the Thousand

Year Reign depicted in Revelation chaper 20 by giving "al allegorical explanation of [it]," states the Catholic

Encyclopedia. It adds: "This explanation...was adopted by succeeding Western theologians, and millenarianism in its

earlier shape no longer received support."

    COMMENTS
Notice that the WTS does not quote directly from Origen or Augustine but rather someone else's opinion of what they

said and meant by it. Encyclopedias even go farther and pull quotes from works by people's interpretations of what

    other people have written.

I was taught that when studying history that it was best to use information and quotes as close to the original as

possible. Now it is not likely that we can read their writings in the original lanugages, but we could certainly benefit from

a good translation of what they said rather than someone's interpretation.

    apostate Christianity
    apostate Christendom
    "Christianity"

Q7. What false belief has undermined man's hope of everlasting life on earth, and how?

Mankind's hope of everlasting life on earth was undermined by an idea that prevailed in ancient Babylon and spreadh

worldwide--the idea that man has an immortal soul or spirit that merely inhabits a physical body. When Christendom

adopted that idea, theologians twisted the Scriptures to make texts that describe the heavenly hope appear to teach

that all good people go to heaven. According to this view, a person's life on earth is intended to be transitory--a test to

determine if he is worthy of life in heaven. Something similar happened to the early Jewish hope of everlasting life on

earth. As the Jews gradually adopted the Greek idea of inherent immortality, their original hope of life on earth faded.

How different this is from the way man is presented in the Bible! Man is a physical creature, not a spirit. Jehovah said to

    the first man: "Dust you are." (Gen. 3:39) The earth, not heaven, is man's everlasting home.--Read Psalm 104:5;

    115:16.

    COMMENTS
So did Jesus tell his followers that he was going to make a home for them on earth or heaven? Are Jesus' followers

then the only good people on earth?

Do all Christian religions teach immortality of the soul? That makes a difference because the WTS does teach that

Jesus and their anointed members will receive (or received) immortality when they are resurrected.

The Bible Students and the Christadelphians and 7th Day Adventists don't believe in an immortal soul.

TRUTH FLASHES UP IN THE DARKNESS

Q8. What did some scholars of the 1600's say about man's hope?

Although most religions that claim to be Christian deny the hope of everlasting life on earth, Satan did not always

succeed in obscuring the truth. Down through the ages, a few careful Bible readers saw flashes of truth as they

understood some aspects of how God will restore mankind to perfection. (Ps. 97:11; Matt. 7:13,14; 13:37-39) By the

1600's, Bible translation and printing had made the Holy Scriptures more widely available. In 1651, one scholar wrote

that since through Adam men "have forfeited Paradise, and Eternall Life on Earth," so in the Christ "all men shall be

made to live on Earth; for else the comparison were not proper." (Read 1 Corinthians 15:21,22). One of the

English-speaking world's famous poets, John Milton (1608-1674), wrote Paradise Lost and its sequel Paradise

Regained. In his works, Milton referred to the reward that the faithful will receive in an earthly paradise. Although Milton

dedicated much of his life to Bible study, he recognized that Scriptural truth would not be pieced together until Christ's

    presence.

    COMMENTS
So first, who was this scholar...the latter mentioned Milton? Why the WTS interpretation of what he wrote and meant

rather than complete quotes in context? Thomas Hobbes perhaps.

    http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/h/hobbes/thomas/h68l/chapter38.html

No quotes from Milton backing up the WTS conclusion?

Q9,10. (a) What did Isaac Newton write about mankind's hope? (b) Why did the time of Christ's presence seem distant

    to Newton?

    9. The famous mathematician Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) also had a keen interest in the Bible. He understood that

the holy ones will be raised to heavenly life and will rule invisibly with Christ. (Rev. 5:9,10) As for the subjects of the

Kingdom, he wrote" The earth shall continue to be inhabited by mortals after the day of judgment and that not only for a

    1000 years but even forever."

    COMMENTS
I could not find this quote on Google.

What other things did Newton write about and believe that the WTS does not support?

    QUOTES
Newton was a strong believer in prophetic interpretation of the Bible and considered himself to be one of a select

group of individuals who were specially chosen by God for the task of understanding Biblical scripture.[3]

    http://www.newtonproject.sussex.ac.uk/prism.php?id=74

Over the years, a large amount of media attention and public interest has circulated regarding largely unknown and

unpublished documents, evidently written by Isaac Newton, that indicate he believed the world could end in 2060 AD.

(Newton also had many other possible dates e.g 2034) [11]

    10. Newton considered Christ's presence to be centuries away. "One reason why Newton saw the Kingdom of God so

far in the future was because he was profoundly pessimistic about the deep Trinitarian apostasy he saw around him,"

said historian Stephen Snobelen. The good news was still veiled. And Newton saw no Christian movement that could

preach it. He wrote: "These prophecies of Daniel and John [the latter recorded in the book of Revelation] should not be

understood till the time of the end." Newton explained: "'Then,' saith Daniel, 'many shall run to and fro, and the

knowledge shall be increased.' For the Gospel must be preached in all nations before the great tribulation, and the end

of the world. The palm-bearing multitude, which came out of this great tribulation, cannot be innumerable out of all the

nations, unless they be made so by the preaching of the Gospel before it comes."--Dan. 12:4; Matt. 24:14; Rev. 7:9,10.

    COMMENTS
    Snobelen quote:

But then remember Newton thought the end would come in 2034 or 2060.

Q11. Why did mankind's hope remain obscure for most people in the days of Milton and Newton?

In the days of Milton and Newton, to express ideas contrary to official doctrine of the church was dangerous. Therefore,

much of their Bible scholarship remained unpublished until after their deaths. The Reformation of the 16th century

failed to reform the teaching about inherent immortality, and mainstream Protestant churches continued to teach

Augustine's idea that the Millennium was past, not future. Has knowledge increased in the time of the end?

    COMMENTS
So what happens to jws that express ideas contrary to the official doctrine of the WTS? Aren't they branded as

apostate, disfellowshiped, and all their friends and family that are members of the WTS are told not to talk or associate

    with them again?

"THE TRUE KNOWLEDGE WILL BECOME ABUNDANT"

Q12. When was the true knowledge to become abundant?

As regards "the time of the end," Daniel foretold a very positive development. (Read Daniel 12:3,4,9,10.) "At that time

the righteous ones will shine as brightly as the sun," said Jesus. (Matt. 13:43) How did the true knowledge become

abundant in the time of the end? Consider some historical developments in the decades prior to 1914, the year when

the time of the end began.

    COMMENTS
Actually, until 1927 or so the WTS taught that 1799 was the beginning of the "time of the end" not the 1914 the

advertise now. In fact you cannot find a reference to this in the WT Index.

Having thus furnished grounds for establishing the identity of this character (Napoleon), whose deeds mark the

beginning of the 'Time of the End,' the prophecy proceeds to show which particular event of that time is to be

understood as definitely marking the exact date of the beginning of the 'Time of the End.' This event is shown to be

Napoleon's invasion of Egypt, which covered a period of a year and nearly five months. He sailed May, 1798 and,

returning, landed in France Oct. 9, 1799. This campaign is graphically described in a few words in verses 40-44. Verse

40: 'And at the (fixed) Time of the End shall the king of the South (Egypt) fight against him, and the king of the North

(England) shall come against him like a tempest, with chariots and with horsemen (the Egyptian Mamelukes, etc.) and

the countries, and shall destroy and pass through (victoriously).

    Creation 1927, p314

Napoleon began this Egyptian campaign in 1798, finished it and returned to France on October 1, 1799. The campaign

is briefly, yet graphically, described in the prophecy, verses 40 to 44 (Daniel 11:40-44); and being completed in 1799

marks, according to the Prophet's own words, the beginning of the 'time of the end

    Creation 1927 p315

In Biblical Symbology a “time” means a year or twelve months of thirty days each. Each day is considered a year, as

the profit says : ‘I have appointed thee each day for a year.’ (Ezekiel 4:6) Here are mentioned, then, three and a half

times of 360 prophetic days, which would mark the beginning of the time of the end of this beastly order. Twelve

hundred and sixty years from A.D. 539 brings us to 1799, which is another proof that 1799 definitely marks the

beginning of “the time of the end”. This also shows that is from the date 539 A.D. that the other prophetic days must be

    counted

The period from 1799 to 1874 could not be said to be a day of preparation, but a day of increasing light. It is not

reasonable to think that the King began to make preparations until he was present.

    Creation 1927 p319

There are two important dates here that we must not confuse, but clearly differentiate; namely, the beginning of “the

time of the end” and the beginning of the presence of the lord. “The time of the end” embraces the period from 1799

A.D to the time complete overthrow of Satan’s empire and the establishment of the kingdom of messiah. The time of

the Lord’s second presence dates from 1874 and is during the latter part of the period known as “the time of the end”.

The fact is that the entire Gospel age has been a period of tribulation referred to in Matt. 24:9-12, and now in verse 29.

    (1) The early Church was persecuted by civil Rome, while later, when Papal Rome got control, all who refused to

approve her abominations were persecuted by her (Jezebel) directly, or indirectly by the civil powers to which she was

wedded (Ahab). And they were given into her power, and she wore out the saints of the Most High for a time, times and

a half time - 1260 years - until A.D. 1799. And this long persecution, in which 'many were purified and made white and

tried,' and in which the Mother of Harlots was 'drunk with the blood of the saints and the martyrs of Jesus' (Rev. 17:6)

ended as we have already shown, practically in 1776 and actually in 1799 when the Pope and his authority were

    humiliated before the World.

No further conflict between these would occur except one, and it would be just at “the appointed” the time of the end,

Q13. What did Charles Taze Russell write after examining the subject of restitution?

In the late 1800's, a number of sincere individuals were searching for an understanding of "the pattern of healthful

words." (2 Tim. 1:13) One such person was Charles Taze Russell. In 1870 he and a few other truth-seekers formed a

class for Bible study. In 1872 they examined the subject of restitution. Later Russell wrote: "Up to that time we had

failed to see clearly the great distinction between the reward of the church on trial and the reward of the faithful of the

world." The reward of the latter will be "restoration to the perfection of human nature once enjoyed in Eden by their

progenitor and head, Adam." Russell acknowledged that he had been helped in his study of the Bible by others. Who

    were these?

    COMMENTS
As you see who helped him, ask yourself if these became part of Russell's group? Which ones had beliefs he did not

agree with? Was Russell basically picking and choosing from a Christian smorgasbord?

Russell also believed till his death that it would be people outside his group that would live forever on earth.

Q14. (a) How did Henry Dunn understand Acts 3:21? (b) Who did Dunn say will live forever on earth?

Henry Dunn was one of them. He had written about the "restoration of all things of which God spoke through the mouth

of his holy prophets of old time." (Acts 3:21) Dunn knew that this restoration included the elevation of mankind to

perfection on earth during the Thousand Year Reign of Christ. Dunn also examined a question that had puzzled many,

Who will live forever on earth? He explained that millions will be resurrected, taught the truth, and have the opportunity

    to exercise faith in Christ.

    COMMENTS
So did you see any references to Dunn's works, or quotes? Has the WTS ever mentioned him in their recent

publications? Henry Dunn taught their were 2 salvations, does the WTS teach that?

Q15. What did George Storrs discern about the resurrection?

In 1870, George Storrs also came to the conclusion that the unrighteous will be resurrected to an opportunity of

everlasting life. He also discerned from the Scriptures that a resurrected one who fails to respond to this opportunity

"will end in death, even if the 'sinner be a hundred years old.'" (Isa. 65:20) Storrs lived in Brooklyn, New York, and

edited a magazine called the Bible Examiner.

Q16. What set the Bible Students apart from Christendom?

Russell discerned from the Bible that the time had come to make the good news widely known. So in 1879, he started

publishing Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence, now called The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's

Kingdom. Previously, the truth about mankind's hope was understood by very few people, but now groups of Bible

Students in many countries were receiving and studying The Watchtower. The belief that only a few will go to heaven,

whereas millions will be given perfect human life on earth, set the Bible Students apart from most of Christendom.

    COMMENTS
What did not set them apart from Christendom?

    Celebrated birthdays
Used the cross in worship (see cover of WT)
Believed all Christians were going to heaven

Note that the WT title in 1879 said "Herald of Christ's Presence" because the WTS taught that his presence began in

1874 not 1914. It was not until1943 that the WTS tossed out the last remnant of that teaching.

Also Note that the title highlights Christ not Jehovah.

When did the WTS start having the WT studied?

Q17. How did true knowledge become plentiful?

The foretold "time of the end" began in 1914. Did true knowledge about the hope of mankind become plentiful? (Dan.

12:4) By 1913, Russell's sermons were were printed in 2,000 newspapers with a combined readership of 15,000,000.

By the end of 1914, over 9,000,000 people on three continents had seen the "Photo-Drama of Creation"--a program

including motion pictures and slides that explained Christ's Millennial Reign. From 1918 until 1925, the talk "Millions

Now Living Will Never Die," which explained the hope of everlasting life on earth, was presented by Jehovah's servants

in over 30 languages worldwide. By 1934, Jehovah's Witnesses realized that those hoping to live forever on earth

should be baptized. This understanding filled them with renewed zeal for preaching the good news of the Kingdom.

Today, the prospect of living forever on earth fills the hearts of millions with gratitude toward Jehovah.

So from 1879 to 1916, did Russell or the Bible Students teach that this was in 1914 or 1799. So was the "true"

knowledge plentiful but was not accurate?

Sermons but not the distribution of the WT, but rather Studies in the Scriptures.
Photodrama but not the WT distribution.

1925--also told that the end would come in 1925, that Abraham and the other ancient worthies would be resurrected as

instantly perfect to rule on humans on earth from Jerusalem. (Don't see that fullfillment---not the last date the WTS has

    set and failed).

So why weren't the non-anointed baptized, not identified until 1934, just in time for the cut off date of 1935.

    Millions--only jws

    No gratitude towards Jesus Christ?

    QUOTES
    *** w01 5/15 p. 14 ‘Behold! The Great Crowd!’ ***
In 1934, The Watchtower made it clear that Christians with an earthly hope should make a dedication to Jehovah and

    be baptized.

    Footnote

***jv sect. 1 chap. 7 p. 83 Advertise the King and the Kingdom! (1919-1941)***
At that time the Jonadabs were not considered to be "Jehovah’s witnesses." (See TheWatchtower, August 15, 1934,

    page 249.)

    "GLORIOUS FREEDOM" AHEAD!

Q18,19. What quality of life is foretold at Isaiah 65:21-25?

    18. The prophet Isaiah was inspired to write about the kind of life that God's people will enjoy on earth. (Read Isaiah

65:21-25). Certain trees that were alive some 2,7000 years ago when Isaiah wrote those words are evidently still alive

today. Can you imagine yourself living that long with strength and good health?

    COMMENTS
    God's people--only jws

    19. Instead of being a short walk from the cradle to the grave, life will present endless opportunities to build, plant, and

learn. Think of the friendships you will be able to cultivate. Those loving relationships will continue to grow indefinitely.

What "glorious freedom" will then be enjoyed on earth by "the children of God"!--Rom. 8:21.

    COMMENTS
So jws don't have good friendships now? One's based on unconditional love?

Rom. 8:21 applies only to the anointed now per the WTS. It will not apply to everyone else until the end of the 1,000

year reign and people pass the final test by Satan per the WTS. So why do they qualify to be children of God now and

everyone else has to wait 1,000 years.

    Can You Explain?
How did mankind's hope of life on earth become obscured?

What understanding did some Bible readers gain in the 1600's?

How did mankind's true hope become clearer as 1914 approached?

How has knowledge about the earthly hope become abundant?

Wow- this little bit of cherry picking of historical quotes will no doubt be celebrated as a comprehensive history of the theology of life on paradise earth.

Shame that they don't mention that every proof scripture they have for living on earth is actually a mistranslation- "the meek shall inherit the land" is more accurate- and easier to understand coming from a culture in the Roman empire where land was the source of all wealth and family/tribal land inheritances were the whole enchilada.

    Amazing work as usual Blondie.

Thanks again for your hard work Blondie, I could have used your notes on the weekend when I debated this article with a jw family member who has a new found zeal for the "truths" coming from the borg!

Its amazing how they quote from "apostate" Origen when it suits them.... My BS meter was going of the richter reading that article!

I wonder how long Isaac Newton would stay in good standing as one of Jehovah's Witlesses these days.

  • WTWizard

I bet that Isaac Newton would soon be labelled an apostate. He never agrees with the Establishment--he didn't stick with the Catholic church, and would probably not stick with the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger of Jehovah's Witlesses.

    9. The famous mathematician Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) also had a keen interest in the Bible. He understood that the holy ones will be raised to heavenly life and will rule invisibly with Christ. (Rev. 5:9,10) As for the subjects of the Kingdom, he wrote" The earth shall continue to be inhabited by mortals after the day of judgment and that not only for a 1000 years but even forever."

I could not find the quote either, but since the article is about "Everlasting life on Earth" I wonder if he was discussing the same thing?

    Wictionary defines

    mortal

    1. Susceptible to death by aging, sickness, injury, or wound

So for the Earth to be forever inhabited by mortal people is nothing like the J W teaching of the same people living forever?.....Or am I missing somhething ??
