    I would have to see Jesus, even though so many of his teachings have been "perverted" by many and so many horrific things done in his or God's name ( case in point the horrific blood policy of the WT), if we look at the actual teachings and words of Jesus, especially from John, we see a loving and devoted man ( putting aside his divinity for now) who believed in love above all and point out the hipocracy of those that were the religious orgnaizations of the time, Jesus was a man the proclaimed a lasting and personal relationship with God and with goodness, not for people to be part of a organized religion that controld their life, but for them to LIVE through their love of God.

    WHile his teachings, it can be argued, were nothing new, no one else has marked the world in such a way than Jesus.

    While "love they neighbour as yourself" may have been around before he said it, most will associate that with the Big J himself.

    Too bad organizations such as the WT have degraded his message of love to one of isolation and fear and cruelty.

    Outlaw,

    And the other 4 billion, one can argue, have knowledge of, if not respect and been infulenced by, his teachings.

    Again, we are talking about the MAN, not the various religions and the crap done in his name.

    He or she invented/discovered beer. We don't have a specific name.

    I salute you.

    "Again, we are talking about the MAN, not the various religions and the crap done in his name."

    ...I beg to differ. The title of this thread asks for positive influence. If people have been influenced to do negative things because of someone, than that counts against their 'positiveness'. Also, the spread of Christianity should fall largely on Paul's shoulders, thereby diminishing Jesus' influence substantially. I suppose many Christians on this site would argue that Jesus guided the work, but even if we agree to this, he did so from heaven, and thus I think should be excluded from a question that is discussing humans only.

    (Because, I mean, if we're not talking humans, then I vote for the first self-replicating molecule as the most positive influential person.)

    Jesus of Nazareth

    Undoubtedly!

    Acts 2 (New International Version)

    21 And everyone who calls
    on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

    22 "Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:
    " 'I saw the Lord always before me.
    Because he is at my right hand,
    I will not be shaken.
    26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will live in hope,
    27 because you will not abandon me to the grave,
    nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
    28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence.'

    29 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
    " 'The Lord said to my Lord:
    "Sit at my right hand
    35 until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet." '

    36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

    Jesus is Lord and the name to call upon to be saved.

    All the best,

    Stephen
