I believe the pagans put out some produce at the end of the harvest as an offering to the birds/gods/whatnot. So yes, to answer your question pumpkins are extremely evil.

However, wedding veils and rings, which have known pagan origins, are perfectly fine. I'm sure your dubbie will be glad to have you point out that.

IIRC there are things predating Christ they have adopted, such as wine/bread at a death observance (if not that, I believe there are other things).

I completely feel for you in regards to not wanting to live your life like this.

    He is being LAME!

Seriously my freakin' COBOE has a whole assortment of pumpkins and gourds by his door! Hell his wife loves making little gourds into hanging lanterns via artistic scroll work from watching Martha Stewart!

I say you go and by some extra gourds, pumpkins and Indian corn.....maybe arrange them artfully on some hay bales!

Tell him I have all that along with some squash, zucs and a whole family of scarecrow......and I got lots of praise from the Bro/Sis for it being tasteful but not 'pagan'.

If he continues to protest.....remind him he isn't baptized or even in good standing, further he has no right to limit your freedom of expression.

    Remind him:

(1 Corinthians 8:4-6) 4 Now concerning the eating of foods offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. 5 For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” 6 there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.

Pause and say a pumpkin is not pagan, a jack o latern especially made from turnips are according to WTS tradition. Then admonish him for be like a pharisee and going beyond where the bible is silent..... there are no pumpkins found in the Bible.

Than make lots of pumpkin dishes to drive home the point that pumpkins are food.

    I like Pumpkin ravioli myself!

If you are going to have to take grief over a plain pumpkin, you might as well go full-out and carve 12 of them and decorate your walkway like it's a haunted house and put neon signs along the street directing people to your house.

He'll be less likely to complain when you want to put up a Snowman in December.

Seriously, it's only going to get worse - and it never stops until either you become a witness or he fully leaves the organization emotionally.

Or you could ask him what was so bad about the Pharisees.

Then say he is stumbling you because he is making up unneccessary rules....not stumbling...help me here, wt scholars--what was the idiotic term they used back in the day to say the husband was overloading the dumb wife's puny brain and fragile menstrual emotional state?

Oh, damn it, I looked it up.

However, the facts show that the headship of a man is both somatically and psychologically sound and in the best interests of all concerned, even as we shall see...Implicit in these findings is that man is advantaged by a greater brain size.

That it is in the best interests of both sexes for man to take the lead is also supported by psychological evidence. One of New York city's leading psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, Dr. Marie N. Robinson, in one of her books, which deals with certain frustrations of married women, skillfully demonstrates by case histories that many of these particular frustrations can be ended if women will but recognized the fact that the way their bodies are made gives evidence that it is intended for man to be the head. As she expresses it, women must learn the art of "eternal acquiescence" and "deep altruism" in dealing with their husbands if they want to find happiness...

As every woman in the prime of life is well aware, she has certain difficult days each month during which she cannot give of her best and during which she very much appreciates her husband's showing her consideration. But if she had responsibilities of oversight and was required to hold forth regularly on the public platform regardless, either her performance or her health would suffer.
