    This is seriously screwed up. These people have the nerve to preach about the church and its doctrine of celibacy when they were doing the same thing!

    No wonder they are so unnatural and hate women.

    It appears that "The Vow" served as a daily reminder for good behavior.

    I wonder if Rutherford ever took it?

    He was a member of the Bethel family then so I imagine so.

    It should be noted LongHairGal, that Russell did not forced celibacy on anyone. It is something he vowed. There is nothing in the vow about celibacy, only Christian conduct with those of the opposite sex. It should also be noted that there were children living at bethel during Russell's leadership.

    He supposedly might not have 'enforced' it, but that's not the impression I got about bethel from elderly people in my KH. It was made to sound like if somebody got married they were violating some law and were being 'disobedient'. Whatever.
